Saturday’s NHL prop picks

Kevin Hayes Under 1.5 shots on goal (+124 via DraftKings)  ⭐⭐⭐

St. Louis Blues forward Kevin Hayes has never been known for his shot, and that hasn't changed in 2022-23. He's registered just 13 shots on goal across 12 games thus far with 32 total shot attempts, fewer than three per game.

Hayes has recorded at least two shots in just two of 12 contests this season. While one of those instances occurred during his last game against the Coyotes, he should return to his usual one or fewer shots while facing the Colorado Avalanche.

The Avalanche allow the sixth-fewest shots in the league at 28.1 per game. The Blues only average 27.2, which is the NHL's third-fewest. Take the Under on Hayes.

Filip Hronek to record a point (+114 via DraftKings) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Vancouver defenseman Filip Hronek has paired nicely with Quinn Hughes to start the season for the Canucks. Both blue-liners are producing well early in the season. Hughes has recorded 21 points, while Hronek has notched 14 through 13 games.

Hughes’ odds to record a point are -180, but we’re getting plus odds on Hronek. He's riding an eight-game point streak and has recorded a point in 10 of 13 games during 2023-24.

The Canucks should be able to score at least a few goals in Toronto, and the top-pair defenseman will be in on the action.

Canucks ML vs. Maple Leafs (+114 via DraftKings) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Vancouver has been one of the NHL's best teams in the early going. The Canucks are 10-2-1 through 13 games, good for 21 points (.808%). Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs have been a bit more disappointing at 7-5-2.

Not only have the Canucks been off to a better start, but they hold the rest advantage here on Saturday night.

The Leafs endured a hard-fought shootout win against the Calgary Flames on Friday night, while the Canucks played in Ottawa on Thursday. Additionally, Joseph Woll started for Toronto on Friday, so it’ll surely be Ilya Samsonov (2-1-2, 4.11 GAA, .855 SV%) in goal against the Canucks.

Vancouver should arguably be favored in this game. Take advantage of a mispriced line.

Avalanche -1.5 vs. Blues (+105 via BetRivers) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Avalanche hit a bit of a rough patch recently, but they now get a great opportunity to rebound at home on Saturday night.

Despite losses in four of their last six games, the Avalanche boast the second-best xGF% in the league at 57.01%. On the other side, the St. Louis Blues have posted the third-lowest at 43.39%.

We're going with the puck line in this one due to Colorado's tendency to win by a decent margin. The Avs have covered -1.5 in six of their seven wins, while the Blues have suffered a multi-goal loss in five of their six defeats.
