Tuesday brings a 12-game schedule to the National Hockey League, including one of the most lopsided games of the season to date. Read on as we offer up our best bets and top NHL picks.
Thinking about banking some easy money with the Toronto Maple Leafs? Be careful.
On one hand, the Maple Leafs have gone more than a month since their last loss in regulation, going 11-0-3 in that time. Now blessed with a Tuesday home matchup against an Anaheim Ducks team that has one regulation win in 29 games, it's easy to see why the Maple Leafs are priced as ridiculous -475 favorites at DraftKings.
But any Maple Leafs fan will tell you that nothing comes easy to the Blue and White – and while Toronto has fared much better in this regard over the past eight months, the team is still a dismal 6-6 SU in its past 12 games as a fave of -300 or lower.
Here are our best bets for Tuesday’s NHL slate (odds via DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel Sportsbook, Caesars, BetMGM, and PointsBet; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).
Tuesday’s NHL Schedule and Odds
(odds via DraftKings)
- Anaheim Ducks (+380) vs. Toronto Maple Leafs (-475)
- New York Islanders (+200) vs. Boston Bruins (-240)
- Seattle Kraken (+165) vs. Tampa Bay Lightning (-195)
- Dallas Stars (+135) vs. New Jersey Devils (-155)
- Columbus Blue Jackets (+240) vs. Florida Panthers (-285)
- Los Angeles Kings (-110) vs. Buffalo Sabres (-110)
- Carolina Hurricanes (-155) vs. Detroit Red Wings (+135)
- Vegas Golden Knights (+115) vs. Winnipeg Jets (-135)
- Edmonton Oilers (-135) vs. Nashville Predators (+115)
- Washington Capitals (-205) vs. Chicago Blackhawks (+175)
- Philadelphia Flyers (+185) vs. Colorado Avalanche (-215)
- Arizona Coyotes (+140) vs. San Jose Sharks (-165)

NHL Top Picks for Tuesday
Moneyline: Jets (-132) ★★★★
More like the Vegas (Fool's Gold)en Knights, am I right?
Even though the Golden Knights have a sparkling 12-2-1
record on the road this season, the run includes two overtime wins and
two shootout wins, so they've had plenty of one-goal luck in building that mark.
The bigger concern for the Golden Knights is that they have been mediocre without Alex Pietrangelo. In seven games absent their star defenseman, the Golden Knights are getting 49.8% of five-on-five score-and-venue-adjusted shot attempts and 49.2% of expected goals – a picture of mediocrity.
Despite a disappointing home loss against the Washington Capitals on Sunday, the Winnipeg Jets are 10-4 on home ice.
While the Jets are managing just 49.2% of five-on-five score-and-venue-adjusted expected goals, their difference maker is in net. Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has a .930 save percentage and leads the NHL in Goals Saved Above Expected, with 17.63.
For my money, the Jets should be favored closer to -150, so getting them at -132 at BetMGM is good value. DraftKings and Caesars have the Jets priced at -135, PointsBet at -136, and FanDuel at -140. While there is not a massive difference, that gap between DraftKings and FanDuel is notable.
Spread: Kraken +1.5 (-150) ★★★★
In a dozen road games this season, the Seattle Kraken have a 9-2-1 record. Their .792 points percentage ranks third in the NHL behind the New Jersey Devils and Golden Knights.
Friday’s 4-1 loss at Washington was Seattle’s only multi-goal loss in 12 road games.
The Tampa Bay Lightning have a 10-4-1 record on home ice, but have just seven multi-goal victories in those 15 games. It is not unreasonable to pick a Kraken upset here, but taking the cover is a good option, too.
DraftKings offers the Kraken +1.5 at -150, which is more appealing than FanDuel, which prices the puckline at -158. Caesars and PointsBet have the Kraken at -155 on the puck line, while BetMGM is pricier at -161.
Total: Hurricanes-Red Wings Under 6 (-110) ★★★★
Not only do the Carolina Hurricanes tend to play lower scoring games, they are also missing their No. 1 center, as Sebastian Aho is out with a lower-body injury. Carolina averages 5.48 goals for and against per 60 minutes, the second-lowest rate in the league.
The Detroit Red Wings are much closer to average in terms of production. They are 17th in goals against and tied for 18th in goals for.
Taking the Under on this total is more a reflection on the Hurricanes than the Wings. The Red Wings have gone Under six goals in seven of 14 home games, with two additional games landing on exactly six goals.
This should also be a good goaltending matchup. Hurricanes rookie Pyotr Kochetkov has posted a .918 save percentage with 4.64 Goals Saved Above Expected in 11 games. Detroit’s Ville Husso, signed as a free agent in the summer, has responded with a .916 save percentage and 6.39 Goals Saved Above Expected in 19 starts.
Most of the top sportsbooks are offering the Under at -115, but BetMGM still has both sides priced at -110.
Prop bet: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins Over 0.5 goals (+250) ★★★★★
Edmonton Oilers forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has scored seven goals in 13 road games this season, registering at least one goal in six of those games.
The Oilers are in Nashville to take on the Predators, with both teams on the second game of a back-to-back. Edmonton lost 2-1 at Minnesota while Nashville dropped a 1-0 decision in overtime at St. Louis on Monday.
Since it is a back-to-back situation, the Preds are likely to turn to backup goaltender Kevin Lankinen. He has been excellent in limited duty this season, posting a .934 save percentage and 6.76 Goals Saved Above Expected in seven games. Based on Lankinen’s previous two seasons of NHL play, though, it is fair to question the sustainability of his early numbers.
In any case, priced at +250, the implied probability of a Nugent-Hopkins goal is 28.6%, well below his rate of production thus far.
Caesars has a Nugent-Hopkins anytime goal priced at +250. PointsBet and DraftKings boast +240 odds, while FanDuel is at +235. On a $10 bet, there is an extra $1.50 available at Caesars compared to FanDuel.
