Finland vs. Sweden Prediction

An age-old rivalry continues on Saturday when Finland clashes with Sweden at Bell Centre in Montreal (1 p.m. ET, ABC) during the second contest for each team in the 4 Nations Face-Off.

Each side lost its opening matchup, and the Finns and Swedes now trail Canada and the USA in the 4 Nations Face-Off odds. We're diving into Sweden's path to win in regulation in our Finland vs. Sweden prediction and picks.

I've also made my USA vs. Canada prediction for the marquee tilt of the day.

Finland vs. Sweden predictions for Today

Pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale.

  • Finland vs. Sweden moneyline pick: Sweden 3-way ML (-120 via Betway) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • Finland vs. Sweden Over/Under pick: Over 5.5 goals (+105 via Betway) ⭐⭐⭐

Who will win Finland vs. Sweden?

Sweden 3-way ML ⭐⭐⭐⭐

A rivalry with this much history and bad blood can often be the great equalizer for any discernible class difference, which Finland will be hoping for when the puck drops.

I expect this one to transpire similarly to how the first two periods unfolded between the USA and Finland.

And I don't think the Swedes will explode for four goals in the third period like the Americans. Finland should again struggle to muster concerted and prolonged offensive zone time, which will keep their high-danger chances at a minimum.

They had 2.73 expected goals against the USA, and I expect a similar number against the Three Crowns. Meanwhile, Sweden has too much offensive depth and talent for Finland's injury-ravaged and shoestring defense to combat for 60 minutes.

Who will start in goal for Finland vs. Sweden?

Kevin Lankinen will start in goal for the Finns, with Juuse Saros heading to the bench for this game at least. The latter struggled during Finland's opening game, posting -1.09 goals saved above expected.

Meanwhile, Filip Gustavsson should remain in the crease for the Swedes after his polished performance against Canada.

A winning $10 bet will profit $8.33.

What will be the score of Finland vs. Sweden?

Over 5.5 goals ⭐⭐⭐

Finland will acquit itself in a similar fashion as in the opener. They'll most likely lose the time of possession and shot battles, defending deep and hoping Saros — or whoever starts — is at their best.

I envision this contest teetering between five and six goals. I'm going with the Over as I feel Sweden will break through four goals. Meanwhile, Finland has enough offensive talent to get a couple by Gustavsson. I can't see a heated rivalry such as this one being lopsided.

Look for the Swedes to win 4-2, potentially scoring the fourth into an empty net. A winning $10 bet will profit $10.50.
