New Jersey won its first game this season without injured superstar Jack Hughes on Saturday, and my Devils vs. Lightning player props project the visiting Devils to build on that momentum tonight when they travel to Tampa Bay (7 p.m. ET, NHL Network and Sportsnet).

Although the Lightning are -160 favorites, my NHL best bets for Tuesday’s contest are backing the Devils’ Timo Meier and Nico Hischier while fading Tampa Bay’s struggling sniper Brayden Point.

After averaging approximately a point per game for the past seven seasons, Point has recorded just 10 through his first 18 games of the 2025-26 campaign.

There aren’t many positive signs of a potential turnaround either. He’s been held off the score sheet in six of his last eight games, and Point is averaging fewer than two shots per game over his last five contests.

Meanwhile, the Devils have been tightening up defensively of late (eight regulation-time goals against in their last four games) as they deal with injuries to several top players. Expect Point’s struggles to continue for at least one more outing.

Odds of +105 or better were available at all of the best NHL betting sites as of Tuesday morning, with Caesars’ +106 price the best out there. A bet using those odds would return $10.60 on a winning $10 wager with an implied probability of 48.54%.

⬆️ Timo Meier player prop: Over 3.5 shots (+125) ⭐⭐⭐

Jack Hughes’ prolonged absence could create more opportunities for Meier, who was given a season-high 24 minutes of ice time in the Devils’ 3-2 shootout win over Washington on Saturday.

Maier finished that contest with 10 shot attempts, which was the third time in six games he’s cracked double digits in that department. He’s also registered at least five shots on goal in five of those six games.

BetRivers’ +125 odds were the best available on Meier Over 3.5 shots this morning, but you should be able to find at least +115 at some of the other best sports betting sites. The +125 price implies a 44.44% probability of winning $12.50 on a $10 bet.

Hischier joins Meier as snipers who are expected to play a larger role in the Devils’ offense going forward.

The team was already trending that way before Hughes was hurt. Hischier has attempted more shots over his last three games (20) than in his previous seven (19), and the Devils' captain has generated 1.6 expected goals in those three outings after just 1.4 across his prior 10.

Even though Hischier has scored just one goal in his last 14 games, FanDuel’s +200 odds are generous enough to take a shot on the two-time 30-goal man rounding back into form. A $10 bet can return $20 in profit, with an implied probability of 33.3%.
