Super Bowl AI Prediction: We Simulated Every Play of Seahawks vs. Patriots (With Stats)
It's impossible to predict exactly what will happen when the Seattle Seahawks face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 2026 ... right? I turned to three of the best AI models available to see how close we can get ahead of Sunday's kickoff at 6:30 p.m. ET.
Our Super Bowl AI prediction is unlike the rest of our Super Bowl predictions or even other Seahawks vs. Patriots AI predictions that you may come across for the Big Game. That's because we used three different AI models - ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude - to simulate every play of Super Bowl 60 with realistic play calls and projected outcomes.
The result is a comprehensive simulation with complete box scores, stat leaders, key moments, and a play-by-play game log that we've included at the end of the article. Sound crazy? It probably is, but if our AI simulation is anything like what we see on the field at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., we're all in for a treat on Super Bowl Sunday.
🤖 How we trained AI to predict every play of Super Bowl 2026
Over the last two years, I've been running AI simulations of major sporting events using ChatGPT, the massively popular AI model from OpenAI. While that resulted in some accurate results - including predicting the winner of March Madness, Copa America, the Kentucky Derby, and more - it faced limitations with the complexity of football simulations.
So this year, I raised the stakes of our AI simulation process by including Google's AI assistant Gemini and the fast-growing AI model Claude, which handled the bulk of complexity for our Super Bowl projections. Here's how it worked:
Super Bowl AI simulation: ChatGPT vs. Gemini vs. Claude
For our AI simulation, we trained ChatGPT (Seahawks) and Gemini (Patriots) to operate as the coaching staffs for their respective teams. Both sides were trained using realistic playbooks and real play-calling data from sources like Pro Football Focus and nfelo, in addition to clear fundamentals about clock management and situational awareness.
Claude, which ran the core simulation for our Super Bowl AI prediction, was trained to operate as an "officiating crew" of sorts - projecting the result of every down based on the play calls and situational context before updating the proper game state and relaying that information back to each team. Here's how the process worked for each play:
- Each coaching staff calls a play. This is determined by the current down, distance, time remaining, and past results leading up to that play. Both coaches provided extra context (like the intended target or coverage adjustments) that factored into the outcome. The defense was aware of the offense's personnel but not its play call.
- Claude simulates the result. Each play was simulated based on the likelihood of success for the offensive play call against the defensive play call (adjusting for context), while considering factors such as personnel and prior success. The outcome of each play was described narratively and statistically and shared with both coaches.
- Game stats are updated. After each play, Claude updates the down, distance, and time remaining before relaying that information back to the coaches to begin the next play.
Beyond training each AI model, my involvement was limited to relaying information to and from ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude, as well as ensuring accuracy and procedural management without impacting results ... and running the simulation 142 times.
While this simulation does not feature any penalties - something Claude deeply regrets - it serves as the closest possible play-by-play projection for Super Bowl 2026 and the most detailed simulation I've ever done. With multiple fourth-down conversions and a dramatic two-point attempt in the final minutes, get your popcorn ready for this one.
