While both starting quarterbacks from the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets are playing down the narrative of facing their former teams in Week 1, I'm not.
My best Steelers vs. Jets player props, part of the NFL predictions for Week 1, feature Aaron Rodgers and Justin Fields, and I've selected the Under in my NFL picks below.
The Steelers are the 2.5-point betting favorite for Sunday's tilt from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. (1 p.m. ET, CBS).

Our NFL player prop odds tool shows the best odds for every market across legal sportsbooks in your area.
🔥 Pat Freiermuth to score anytime TD (+425) ⭐⭐⭐

Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth tied his career high with seven receiving touchdowns last year - and that was with aging Russell Wilson and erratic Justin Fields throwing him the pigskin. Now, the fifth-year pro is working with another veteran, only this one is a legitimate gunslinger who knows how to find quality tight ends around the goal line.
Last year with the Jets, Aaron Rodgers threw five touchdown passes to two tight ends - Tyler Conklin and Kenny Yeboah - who don't quite match the quality of Freiermuth. It's also worth noting that Freiermuth finished last year strong, collecting touchdowns in four of his final six games.
Tail this bet at DraftKings, which offers the best price at +425. If Freiermouth hits paydirt, you’ll collect a cool $42.50 on a $10 wager.

⬇️ Aaron Rodgers Under 204.5 passing yards (-115) ⭐⭐⭐

Rodgers is a slam-dunk, sure-fire, first-ballot Hall of Famer, but it’s not because he’s come out guns blazing in season openers. In fact, you have to go back to the 2020 season to find the last time Rodgers cracked 200 passing yards in Week 1 (then with Green Bay, he had 364 yards in a 43-34 shootout win at Minnesota).
Even if you remove his very first game as a Jet in 2023 when he ruptured his Achilles’ tendon four plays into the season, Rodgers has surpassed 203 passing yards just six times in 16 openers. Now, he faces a Jets secondary that ranked fourth in the NFL in pass defense a year ago and knows him very well.
Oh, and he’ll be taking the field just shy of his 42nd birthday, an age when it takes a little time to get the old bones warmed up. Play the old man's Under 204.5 passing yards prop at BetMGM, where the -115 odds equate to a 53.49% win probability. A winning $10 wager will bring back $8.70.

⬇️ Justin Fields Under 44.5 rushing yards (-110) ⭐⭐⭐

If not for his mobility, Justin Fields might not be on an NFL roster right now - he’s struggled that much as a passer (see his 83.9 career QB rating). Fields’ legs are his X-factor and what keep defenses somewhat honest.
However, the former Ohio State star is at his best on the run only when he’s allowed to run. Fields has had double-digit carries in 19 NFL games and rushed for at least 55 yards in 15 of those contests. Meanwhile, Fields only topped 43 rushing yards when tallying single-digit carries 11 times in 31 games.
The question is, will new Jets coach Aaron Glenn take the reins off his new quarterback against Pittsburgh? I'm betting not. After all, the Jets have a legit workhorse running back in Breece Hall, and don’t forget that Fields played in 10 games for the Steelers last year, so that defense knows his tendencies.
You can get the best number (44.5) and odds (-110) on this prop at bet365. Your win probability is 52.38%, and a winning $10 bet will yield $9.09.

How do NFL player props work?
Player props are wagers on individual performances rather than the outcome of the game. Common props include passing yards, rushing yards, receiving yards, and touchdown scorers. For example, if a QB’s passing yards line is set at 250.5, you can bet the Over (251-plus yards) or Under (250 or fewer yards). You can also bet on if a specific player will score a touchdown in the entire game, the first or last touchdown, and more NFL odds markets.
