Ward’s debut didn’t go as hoped, but it largely wasn’t his fault. The Denver Broncos' stingy defense and an NFL-high five drops by his receivers limited Ward to 112 passing yards, despite him totaling an astronomical 294 air yards, eighth-most in the NFL. Ward’s 10.5 air yards per attempt also ranked second in the league.

If Ward’s supporting cast can play better against a worse defense, he should pop in Week 2. The books have kept his passing yardage prop at about the same number where it was last week, give or take 10 yards, which assumes a lot continues to go wrong for the young quarterback. I’m skeptical.

Despite limiting the Houston Texans to 188 passing yards, Los Angeles Rams starters in the secondary all posted abysmal PFF grades; neither starting safety was even better than the league average. Trust Ward for over 196.5 passing yards at -114 (53.3%) at FanDuel for an $8.77 profit on a $10 bet – or play him for 200-plus at -106 (51.5%) for a better return.

Jacksonville Jaguars Two-way star Travis Hunter looked solid in his debut, racking up six receptions for 33 yards. But despite his lack of total yardage, the books are leaving that prop about the same due to the high volume he received. That’s a mistake, especially after head coach Liam Coen shared that Hunter would see more usage on defense against Joe Burrow this week.

Hunter’s playing time and average depth of target are concerns. Although he caught six passes, he played on only 64% of Jacksonville’s offensive plays, less than Dyami Brown (71%), while playing on just 9% of the defensive snaps. Further, when Hunter was targeted, it was generally short. His average target distance (7.4 yards) means he needs loads of volume to go over this number.

Let’s assume Week 1 was a good outcome for Hunter offensively. With more defensive playing time this week, such an outcome is less likely. With just 33 receiving yards on six receptions and eight targets in a good situation for Hunter’s offensive role, it’ll be even harder for him to surpass 50.5 receiving yards while playing more defense. Buy the under 50.5 for -115 (53.5%) for an $8.70 profit at BetMGM.

We faded Ashton Jeanty in Week 1, and it worked out in our favor. Despite his mere 38 rushing yards last week, the books are interpreting his 19-carry performance as a signal that more production is coming, as they have left his rushing yardage prop mostly unchanged. That’s a mistake for Monday’s matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Chargers’ defense was stingy against the run in Week 1, and the team’s brand of complementary football limits the upside of opposing rushers. The Chargers gave up just 98 rushing yards on 17 attempts, and, more importantly, just 41 of those went to running backs. Their defensive front ranked a steady 12th in run-stop win rate (33%). Greg Roman’s slow-paced offense also ranked 25th in seconds per play (31.7), limiting Kansas City’s offensive opportunities.

If Jeanty tallied only 38 yards on 19 carries in a favorable game script for the run, imagine what’ll happen if the Raiders get behind early. His offensive line ranks a dreadful 32nd in run-block win rate (57%) after Week 1, so back him to stay under 70.5 rushing yards for -111 (52.6%) at DraftKings to score a $9.01 profit on a $10 bet.

How do NFL player props work?

Player props are wagers on individual performances rather than the outcome of the game. Common props include passing yards, rushing yards, receiving yards, and touchdown scorers. For example, if a QB’s passing yards line is set at 250.5, you can bet the Over (251-plus yards) or Under (250 or fewer yards). You can also bet on if a specific player will score a touchdown in the entire game, the first or last touchdown, and more NFL odds.
