💰 Patriots vs. Ravens weather: Betting impact for SNF
With both teams' division title hopes on the line, the Patriots and Ravens will have to tough it out in sub-freezing temperatures with strong wind gusts that could ultimately decide the winner of this game.
The latest forecast projects temperatures of 34 degrees at kickoff with that dropping to 30 degrees by the fourth quarter, though it'll feel like 24 degrees on the field. With the wind expected at 9 mph at kickoff with potential gusts up to 22 mph, we could see Sunday Night Football come down to which team can embrace the elements.
Here's how I'd consider the weather when betting on Patriots vs. Ravens:
Sunday Night Football weather impact
- Expect the run games to show up. The Ravens' once-vaunted run game has been a source of inconsistency this year, but when the temperatures are at their lowest, Derrick Henry has enjoyed some of his best moments as a pro. The Patriots have also leaned heavily on rookie back TreVeyon Henderson to create explosive plays in the run game, and he's featured in our Patriots vs. Ravens predictions.
- Rookie kickers could face headwinds. Whenever winds reach double digits, it's always worth considering how special teams units will handle it. Both teams tonight rely on rookie kickers in Andres Borregales (Patriots) and Tyler Loop (Ravens), and while both are among the league's most accurate placekickers, they've made a combined four kicks from 50 yards out. If the winds pick up, that could be trouble.
- Which team can get pressure? The Patriots and Ravens have both struggled to protect their franchise quarterbacks this year, but Drake Maye and Lamar Jackson are both playing their best football coming into the final few weeks of the regular season. With bitter cold and whipping winds testing both passers' resolve, the one hitting the turf less often could be best suited to show up late. Our Esten McLaren expects both to show up in the run game with his anytime touchdown scorer predictions.
