What a way to kick off the 2025 season as the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers clash at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis. My Lions vs. Packers player props feature Jahmyr Gibbs, Josh Jacobs, and Jordan Love, expecting the former to hit pay dirt twice.

I also discuss why Jordan Love should start the season with a low-yardage passing outing and analyze whether Jacobs will be ineffective in the Packers' passing game.

The below NFL picks are part of the NFL predictions for Week 1, with the Packers the 2.5-point betting favorites. The game starts at 4:25 p.m. ET (CBS).

🔥 Jahmyr Gibbs 2+ touchdowns (+600) ⭐⭐⭐

This play is all about risk vs. reward. Gibbs led the NFL with 20 total touchdowns last season. He scored 10 touchdowns in his final five contests including the postseason. Gibbs also tallied two-plus touchdowns in three games during that run.

Though he never scored more than once against the Packers last season, he did cross the goal line in both games against them. His price to score once is set at -115 because of that effectiveness. While that price is worth a play, especially considering Gibbs has scored in eight of his last nine games, the +600 for multiple touchdowns is more enticing.

How good are FanDuel’s odds? +600 means a $10 bet would pay $60, and the implied probability is 14.29%. Compare that to the price of +260 at BetMGM, which implies a 27.78% probability, and it’s not hard to see the value in this play.

⬇️ Josh Jacobs Under 15.5 receiving yards (-109) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Jacobs enjoyed a lot of success running against the Lions last season. He averaged 7.3 yards per carry during the first meet before scoring three touchdowns in the second. However, he didn't produce much success as a receiver in those outings.

The tailback didn’t catch a single pass in the game at Ford Field, and he recorded just two grabs for 13 yards in the other clash. Jacobs finished last season with 342 receiving yards, but he only topped 15.5 yards in 10 of his 18 appearances.

BetMGM is setting the total at 14.5, while the other best sports betting sites are sitting at 15.5. I’d take Under 14.5, but the price is worse than at DraftKings for Under 15.5. Therefore, place this wager at DraftKings, where the implied probability is 52.15% and a $10 winning bet pays $9.17.

⬇️ Jordan Love Under 238.5 passing yards (-115) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

While Love didn’t throw a single interception across his final seven regular-season games, the signal-caller underperformed from a yardage perspective. He threw fewer than 230 yards in his final six outings, including just 212 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles in the postseason.

Though Love threw for 273 yards in his first meeting with the Lions last season, he tallied only 206 in the second. That performance came despite his team scoring 31 points, and the Lions’ defense dealing with numerous injuries, including to DJ Reader, Josh Paschal, Aidan Hutchinson, and Alim McNeil.

Love’s total ranges from 234.5 to 238.5 at the best sports betting apps. Though the best price is available at Under 237.5, the difference is so negligible that I’ll take Under 238.5 for -115 at BetMGM. The price suggests an implied probability of 53.49%, and a $10 bet would pay $8.70.

How do NFL player props work?

Player props are wagers on individual performances rather than the outcome of the game. Common props include passing yards, rushing yards, receiving yards, and touchdown scorers. For example, if a QB’s passing yards line is set at 250.5, you can bet the Over (251-plus yards) or Under (250 or fewer yards). You can also bet on if a specific player will score a touchdown in the entire game, the first or last touchdown, and more NFL odds markets.
