Why Rams Rookie WR Could Break Out vs. Seahawks Tonight on Thursday Night Football

With Davante Adams ruled out tonight in Seattle, I have my eyes on a seventh-round rookie receiver to step up on Thursday Night Football.

The Los Angeles Rams enter tonight with their best receiver doubtful to play against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football (8:15 p.m. ET, Prime Video) - but his replacement could be primed for a big night at Lumen Field in Seattle.

With Davante Adams ruled out tonight with a hamstring injury, I'm breaking down the best Konata Mumpfield player props as part of our NFL Week 16 predictions.

🤔 Who is Konata Mumpfield?

Check out all of our NFL analysis and expert analysis for every game this season.

Tha Rams drafted Mumpfield in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft after a productive collegiate career that saw him register a combined 2,691 yards and 19 touchdowns across four seasons at Akron and Pittsburgh.

After being used sparingly in Los Angeles' offense early in the season, the 6-1 receiver recorded his first catch in Week 6 and subsequently saw his snap count spike. He's seen at least 20 offensive snaps in seven of his last eight games, including 32 snaps each of the last two weeks.

With Adams ruled out for tonight's matchup, Rams head coach Sean McVay specifically called out Mumpfield earlier this week as someone who "would step up" if Adams misses time, while offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur said he and Adams share "similar traits" in terms of their footwork and football IQ.

Market Betting line Over odds Under odds
Receiving yards 14.5 -112 -112
Total receptions 1.5 +106 -134
Longest reception 10.5 -125 -106

The betting market is still pretty tepid about Mumpfield, who has hauled in just five receptions for 42 yards in his first 14 career games. That includes zero catches against the Seahawks in Week 11, though he followed that up with two catches for a career-high 25 yards the following week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Mumpfield features the lowest receiving yardage line of any non-running back for either side, and he's the only player with plus-money odds to finish with at least two catches. He's also priced at +550 to score a touchdown, which is one of the most popular bets for Thursday Night Football, and it's where I see the most value on the Rams rookie tonight.

Konata Mumpfield to score a touchdown (+550)

Given Mumpfield's track record to this point, I fully understand why he's catching the longest anytime touchdown odds of any player expected to play a meaningful role tonight.

But that's the catch: Mumpfield is set to take on a significant role tonight with Adams watching from the sidelines. I don't expect the rookie to assume a full starter's share - McVay has already signaled a committee approach to replacing Adams' workload - but Mumpfield appears primed to play a leading role as the X receiver in this offense.

That's a pretty significant role considering that Adams leads the NFL with 14 receiving touchdowns with a staggering 12 of those coming in the red zone - including 11 within 10 yards of the end zone. Mumpfield isn't a former All-Pro receiver like Adams, but he shares enough similarities with his teammate that I expect him to see targets in the red zone.

I've already made this bet at +550 odds, which would turn a $10 bet into a $55 profit if he scores his first NFL touchdown. That's a pretty sweet return for a player who could see the field for half of his team's snaps tonight. Our Esten McLaren is also looking to profit on Adams' absence with his anytime touchdown scorer predictions.
