There’s plenty of buzz surrounding the 54th preseason matchup between the New York Jets and New York Giants. Not only will the Mayor’s Trophy Game pit the Big Apple’s passionate fanbases at odds, but the four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers will take his first semi-meaningful snaps for the green and white.

Rodgers joining the Jets was one of the only offseason moves to shake up the 2023 Super Bowl odds, and the preseason line in this matchup has also moved in the Gang Green's direction.

So can the Giants pull off the upset and spoil Rodgers’ long-awaited Jets debut?

It’s incredibly difficult to handicap how many points a quarterback is worth. And in the case of Rodgers, he hasn’t even suited up for the Jets yet. Additionally, he might just be a shell of his former self after his statistical decline and overall underwhelming showing in 2023.

Still, let's be generous and power rank Rodgers as a 4.5-point, tier-two quarterback.

Rodgers playing a couple of drives shouldn’t result in a game-changing outcome, but this spread has moved considerably across our best sportsbooks since opening. I’m connecting a decent chunk of that action with Rodgers being set to make his preseason debut on Saturday.
