Our Vikings vs. Steelers prediction has Minnesota covering the 1.5-point spread (-105) thanks to its outstanding defense.

My early Vikings vs. Steelers prediction expects Minnesota's defense to continue its dominant ways over in Dublin for the NFL's first-ever matchup in Ireland.

Kickoff is set for 9:30 a.m. ET (NFL Network) at Croke Park.

My NFL picks target the Vikings to cover as the 1.5-point betting favorite as part of our NFL predictions for Week 4.

Vikings -1.5 (-105) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Vikings have some question marks on offense, but the defense has only allowed two touchdowns in their last two games. In Sunday’s win over the Bengals, they forced five turnovers, held the Bengals to just 171 total yards, and scored two touchdowns.

The Steelers have scored 21 points or fewer in each of their last two games. The defense forced five Patriots turnovers, but New England racked up 369 yards of offense. Meanwhile, the Steelers managed just 203.

If Carson Wentz plays clean again on Sunday, his offense should score plenty against a defense allowing the fifth-most yards and 10th-most points per game. I’d happily take the Vikings at -1.5 at FanDuel for -105. However, because of public support, I expect the Steelers to be favored by kickoff. A $10 bet at -105 would pay $9.52. The Vikings have a 51.22% implied probability to cover.

Vikings vs. Steelers odds analysis

After the Steelers’ 21-14 win over the Patriots, the public loves Aaron Rodgers and Co. in this game. However, the spread has not moved, even though the Steelers are seeing two-thirds of the public support. I anticipate oddsmakers will give in soon and make this a pick-em or even favor the Steelers before kickoff.

No matter where the spread lands, I like the Vikings. As for the total, the number is set between 40.5 and 41.5. With bettors split pretty evenly on the Over/Under, I don’t expect this number to change much at all.

Vikings vs. Steelers odds update

The spread has shifted in the opposite direction that we expected, as Minnesota is now a -2.5 favorite at many of the top sportsbooks, with the Vikings moneyline sitting between -140 and -150.

How do NFL odds work?

When betting on NFL odds, the point spread shows how many points the favorite needs to win by in order to cash the bet. For example, a favorite of -3 must win by more than 3 points to cover the spread, while an underdog at +3 must win outright or lose by fewer than 3 points to cover the spread.

Moneyline odds represent the payout for picking the outright winner (+200 means a $100 bet wins $200, while -200 means a $200 bet wins $100). Over/Unders let you wager on whether the combined total will be higher or lower than the set number.
