After losing heartbreakers on the final play of regulation in consecutive weeks, the Denver Broncos look to square their record when they host the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football in Week 4. Despite being the 7.5-point betting favorite, my early Bengals vs. Broncos prediction doesn't think things will come easily for Denver QB Bo Nix and Co.

Cincinnati's attack isn't firing on all cylinders. That resulted in five turnovers in an ugly loss to the Minnesota Vikings last week. My NFL picks for this game focus on why the Under is my favorite way to bet MNF.

Stay on top of all of our NFL predictions for Week 4 ahead of kickoff from Empower Field at Mile High in Denver at 8:15 p.m. ET (ABC).

Under 45.5 (-110) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Neither of these offenses has lived up to lofty preseason expectations. Denver managed just nine first downs in last week’s 23-20 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, and Bo Nix has yet to throw for more than 206 yards in his three outings. Meanwhile, the Bengals moved the chains only 12 times in Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings, and their 262 total yards per game rank third-last in the NFL.

On the other side of the ball, Denver’s defense looks like its usual self, leading the league in sacks and third-down percentage. And while Cincy allowed 48 points last week, a lot of that damage was due to five turnovers by the offense - two of which were returned for touchdowns. It’s worth noting that the Bengals held Denver to 24 points and 19 first downs when these teams met last December.

With the Bengals looking to atone for last week’s humbling loss to Minnesota and the Broncos desperate to rebound from back-to-back losses, I’m expecting both defenses to lead the way on Monday Night Football. Most of the best sports betting sites had the total at 44.5 at the time of writing, so I was happy to grab Under 45.5 -110 at BetMGM. A winning $10 wager would profit $9.09 with an implied probability of 52.4%.

Bengals vs. Broncos odds analysis

The Broncos were 6.5-point favorites on the lookahead lines, but re-opened as 7.5-point chalk after Cincinnati’s Week 3 blowout loss in Minnesota. Some of the best sports betting apps were shading their line slightly towards the Bengals, indicating the chance that we may see this line move down to 7 or fewer points as the week presses on.

Most shops opened the total at 44.5, and some 44s had already begun to appear at the time of writing.

How do NFL odds work?

When betting on NFL odds, the point spread shows how many points the favorite needs to win by in order to cash the bet. For example, a favorite of -3 must win by more than 3 points to cover the spread, while an underdog at +3 must win outright or lose by fewer than 3 points to cover the spread.

Moneyline odds represent the payout for picking the outright winner (+200 means a $100 bet wins $200, while -200 means a $200 bet wins $100). Over/Unders let you wager on whether the combined total will be higher or lower than the set number.
