The NFC East is the only division with three teams at 4-1 or better, with two clashing Sunday night as the Philadelphia Eagles host the Dallas Cowboys. Read on for our Cowboys-Eagles picks.

Dallas and Philadelphia have met 126 times, but this matchup between the 4-1 Cowboys and 5-0 Eagles is the first in their storied rivalry with one or fewer combined losses after Week 5. The Cowboys used an elite defense to spur a four-game winning streak, averaging 18.6 points per game this season. Meanwhile, the Eagles started 5-0 for the third time in franchise history and the first since 2004.

Cooper Rush is the 13th quarterback (and first Cowboy) in the Super Bowl era to start his career 5-0 and just the sixth to cover the spread in all five of those starts. However, expect him to meet his match against an Eagles team that never trailed in any second half game this season.

Philadelphia hasn't had any second-half deficits partly because of how it's finished first halves this year. The 92 points the Eagles scored in the second quarter are the most points scored in a single quarter in the first five games in NFL history.

Rush has a 4-0 TD-INT ratio through his first four starts, but hasn't played from behind much in those games. Look for him to be taken out of his comfort zone and be more aggressive against a high-powered Eagles offense.

The Cowboys have allowed fewer than 20 points in each of their first five matchups for the first time since 1972. In addition, they're the only team with a pass rush win rate better than 55% and a pressure percentage over 38%. Dallas’ 85 pressures are tied for the second-most through five games since 2009, and its 20 sacks rank an NFL second.

Dallas isn't the only team bringing a ferocious defense into this contest. Philadelphia’s pass defense ranks first with a 36 total QBR allowed, first in yards per attempt (5.6), and fourth in completion percentage allowed (4th). With an Eagles secondary that can lock up Dallas’ wide receivers, they should commit more defenders to the run game and limit the big-play potential of guys like RB Tony Pollard, who has six touchdowns of 40+ yards since 2019.

Eagles QB Jalen Hurts is a nightmare to defend and is coming off his seventh game with 2+ rushing touchdowns. Hurts trails only Cam Newton’s 10 for the most by a quarterback in the Super Bowl era. In addition, his 19 career rushing touchdowns are the most by a quarterback through the first 25 starts. Hurts’ ability to run the run-pass option is a big reason the Eagles rank tied for third in the league with 25 rushes of 10+ yards. 

Hurts can combat Dallas’ pressure with his legs, as he has 103 rushing yards and a TD when pressured this season. He's surpassed this projected total in three of five games this season. Expect him to do so again.
