🔟 Joe Kapp, QB, Vikings
Once called “The Toughest Chicano” by Sports Illustrated, Joe Kapp was the first Latino quarterback to start a Super Bowl.
Although he did not win Super Bowl IV in 1970, reaching the Big Game as a starting quarterback set an important precedent.
9️⃣ Efren Herrera, PK, Cowboys
Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, Efren Herrera was one of the first Mexican-born players to star in the Super Bowl.
He made two field goals and three extra points in Super Bowl XII (1978), helping the Dallas Cowboys defeat the Denver Broncos, 27-10.
8️⃣ Martin Gramatica, PK, Buccaneers
The only Argentinian on this list, Martin Gramatica, was born in Buenos Aires and used his soccer background to earn the nickname “Automatica” at Kansas State.
He went on to make two field goals and six extra points in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 48-21 win over the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII in 2003.
7️⃣ Victor Cruz, WR, Giants
Wide receiver Victor Cruz was known for celebrating his Puerto Rican pride by salsa dancing in the end zone after scoring a touchdown.
Why does he make this list? He caught a key touchdown pass in the New York Giants’ 21-17 upset of Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI in 2012.
6️⃣ Tony Casillas, DT, Cowboys
Tony Casillas, of Mexican descent, played a key defensive role in the Cowboys’ 1990s dynasty.
He won Super Bowls XXVII (1993) and XXVIII (1994) and was part of a defense that forced a Super Bowl–record nine turnovers against the Buffalo Bills in the former.
5️⃣ Isiah Pacheco, RB, Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco won two Super Bowls in his first two NFL seasons, including the Chiefs’ upset of the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII in 2024.
Of Puerto Rican descent, Pacheco also rushed for a touchdown in the Chiefs’ 38-35 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.
4️⃣ Anthony Munoz, OT, Bengals
Anthony Munoz is considered by some to be the greatest offensive tackle of all time.
Although the Bengals lost both of his Super Bowl appearances (1982 and 1989), the nine-time first-team All-Pro, of Mexican descent, easily makes the list for his ability to protect the quarterback on North America’s biggest stage.
3️⃣ Ted Hendricks, LB, Colts/Raiders
Ted Hendricks was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala, and has a long list of accolades that is hard to match.
He is not only a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame but also a four-time Super Bowl champion: one with the Baltimore Colts (1971) and three with the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders (1977, 1981, 1983).
2️⃣ Manny Fernandez, DT, Dolphins
Manny Fernandez was a key part of the Miami Dolphins’ “No Name Defense” in the 1970s, playing in three consecutive Super Bowls, 1972-74, and winning two (VII, VIII).
Some argue that the defensive tackle of Mexican descent should have won MVP in Super Bowl VII, as he recorded 17 tackles in the game, helping the Dolphins complete a 17-0 season.
1️⃣ Jim Plunkett, QB, Raiders
Jim Plunkett is the only Latino to win Super Bowl MVP, earning the honor in Super Bowl XV in 1981.
The two-time Super Bowl champion, of Mexican descent, completed 13 of 21 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns as the Raiders defeated the Eagles 27-10.
