NFL MVP Odds: Baker Mayfield Among Favorites After Heroic Week 6 Win vs. 49ers

Last Updated: October 12, 2025 8:08 PM EDT • 3 minute read X Social Google News Link

With a snakebitten supporting cast, Baker Mayfield put on the cape and led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to yet another comeback win in Week 6 - and the MVP chants are growing louder by the week.
Mayfield now sits among the favorites by the latest NFL MVP odds after his fifth comeback win of the season - this one less dramatic but no less impressive for the Buccaneers, who were down their top rusher and top three receivers but rallied from a first-half deficit for an eventual 30-19 win over the San Francisco 49ers.
As a result, Mayfield trails only Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes - two former winners - by the consensus MVP odds heading into Sunday Night Football.

🧭 Mayfield does it again for Buccaneers

Mayfield was already gaining steam in the MVP race after Week 5, when he led Tampa Bay to its fourth last-second win of the season - proving himself to be the NFL's most clutch QB through the first month of the year.
But when star rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka went down in the first half of Sunday's game against San Francisco, Mayfield was thrust into the leading role once again with a supporting cast ill-prepared for starting on Sundays.
And so he did what he's done all season: the former No. 1 pick ran circles around the defense and showed why his skills were so coveted coming out of college back ... and why he just might be the most valuable player in football right now.
In addition to that heroic scramble on 3rd-and-14, Mayfield finished with 256 yards and two scores through the air - including a ridiculous 45-yard bomb to Tez Johnson for the game's final touchdown. He completed passes to six receivers Sunday and finished 8-of-9 for 144 yards and a TD over the middle as he navigated the loss of his top targets.
It may be early to crown the former Heisman Trophy winner as the NFL MVP, but he's the front-runner by straw polls through six weeks and feels like the obvious choice if the season ended today. And if he can lead the Bucs to the No. 1 seed in a wide-open NFC? It's hard to count him out anymore.
