Fresh off its first March Madness victory in school history, No. 4 seed Nebraska will make its first trip to the Sweet 16 if it can beat No. 5 Vanderbilt. The Commodores are a 2.5-point betting favorite, and the game tips from Paycom Center in Oklahoma City at 8:45 p.m. ET, airing on TNT.
My Vanderbilt vs. Nebraska prediction recognizes that the Oklahoma City crowd on Thursday was extremely pro-Nebraska. I expect that home-court feel to spur the Cornhuskers to a cover, even if facing a big day from Vanderbilt's Tyler Nickel. It's all part of our March Madness predictions.

π Who will win Vanderbilt vs. Nebraska?
See the latest March Madness odds for every team in the 2026 NCAA Tournament.
In Vanderbilt head coach Mark Byington's post-game interview on Thursday, he said he expected the Paycom Center crowd to be "98%" in favor of Nebraska. The pressure of winning its first NCAA Tournament game in school history is over, and I expect the Cornhuskers to play more loose while continuing their non-conference success.
Score prediction: Nebraska 73, Vanderbilt 72
π° Vanderbilt vs. Nebraska prediction & best bet
Nebraska +2.5 (-110)
With an easy cover against Troy, Nebraska moved to 10-5 ATS in non-home games.
If Vanderbilt thinks it will free up its standout backcourt duo of Tyler Tanner and Duke Miles with a steady diet of ball screens, it should think again.
Nebraska ranks in the 7th percentile in ball screens allowed with a 99th percentile efficiency rating, so the Commodores will have to win the majority of one-on-one matchups.
Nebraska is also 23-0 when keeping opponents under a 32% offensive rebounding rate, and Vanderbilt averages a 29.9% offensive rebounding rate in SEC play.
π₯ Best Vanderbilt vs. Nebraska player prop bet
Tyler Nickel Over 2.5 3-pointers made (-135)
Nebraska deploys a packed-in man-to-man defense that allows the lowest rim rate in the country.
But naturally, that means the Cornhuskers allow a high 3-point attempt rate (fourth-highest in the country to be exact). Case in point: Troy attempted 28 threes in Thursdayβs loss, compared to just 18 2-pointers.
A 3-point fest for Vanderbilt plays right into Nickelβs hands as a near 40% 3-point shooter.
He has gone over this projected total in back-to-back games, with as many as seven 3-point attempts in three of the last four games, and four of six.
π Vanderbilt vs. Nebraska same-game parlay
The combination of having the crowd on its side and completely shutting opponents down at the rim bodes well for Nebraska's chances of covering and the Under cashing.
But there is also value in Nickel's 3-point prop, which puts added emphasis on the Cornhuskers shutting down Duke Miles and Tyler Tanner.

π‘ How I'm betting Vanderbilt vs. Nebraska: March Madness strategy
Follow all of our college basketball analysis and expert predictions for March Madness.
With the point spread drifting out to +2.5, that was the number where I decided to forego Nebraska's moneyline and instead settle on an ATS wager. I wouldn't put anyone past sprinkling a little money on the Cornhuskers' moneyline odds, though, which are as high as +122 at FanDuel.
All of the three wagers are one-unit plays, but I would likely add another in-game wager on the underdog if the live point spread drifted out to +5.5 or higher, as I see this game coming down to the wire.
π Live Vanderbilt vs. Nebraska odds: March Madness Second Round
Vanderbilt opened as low as -1.5 soon after this matchup was determined on Thursday afternoon, but was bet to -2.5 (with a stop at -2) within a few hours.
The total had a one-point variance among the best sports betting sites, but I'd expect FanDuel's O/U of 148.5 to align with the rest of the market at 147.5 considering both teams had the Under cash easily in their Thursday games.
