My Oklahoma vs. Marquette prediction is counting on a back-and-forth affair when the two teams face off at 2 p.m. ET today at Credit Union 1 Arena in Chicago (NBC).

The Sooners (4-2) are a 1.5-point favorite over the Golden Eagles (4-3) in what should be a competitive matchup.

🏀 Oklahoma vs. Marquette preview & score prediction

As evidenced by the coin-flip spread, these two teams are similar on paper. They both have struggled against real competition while taking care of business against inferior foes.

Oklahoma has lost to Gonzaga and Nebraska but beat the remaining four teams on its schedule (all ranked 292nd or worse on KenPom). Marquette has lost all three matchups to teams ranked in the top 100 on KenPom, while its best win came against No. 195-ranked Southern.

Whichever team wins on Friday will earn its best victory of the year. My bet is on the Sooners, laying -1.5 in this nonconference battle.

Experienced Oklahoma is ready for the challenge

The Sooners rank 21st in the nation in D-1 experience, according to KenPom. They have four seniors and one junior in their starting lineup.

Senior guard Nijel Pack leads the way with 18.5 points per game. He’s one of four players to average double-figure scoring for an Oklahoma team that ranks 38th in the nation in adjusted offensive efficiency.

The Sooners have struggled with size so far this year, but the Golden Eagles (111th in average height) don’t pose as much of a threat in that department. I like OU’s chances of pulling away in a back-and-forth battle.

Score prediction: Oklahoma 81, Marquette 77

🆚 Oklahoma vs. Marquette matchup to watch

Chase Ross vs. Oklahoma's 3-point defense

Marquette guard Chase Ross ranks tied for 23rd in the country with an average of 20.9 points per game. He’s coming off a 27-point performance against Central Michigan, marking the fourth time in seven games that he’s cleared this scoring prop.

Ross can get hot from distance, as he hit four triples on 11 attempts against Maryland. But he’s at his best when driving to the rim and drawing contact.

Either way, Ross could find success. Oklahoma is allowing teams to shoot 37% from the 3-point line, which ranks 296th in the nation. The Sooners also give up 14.1% of their points from the free-throw line, ranking 354th in the sport.

Our Mike Spector is targeting Ross to go Over his rebounding total as part of his college basketball best bets and player props today.

Best prop bet: Chase Ross Over 17.5 points (-125 via BetMGM)
