Based on trends from the early portion of the college basketball season, it wouldn’t be difficult to paint of picture that includes Purdue struggling to clear this big line on Friday night. The Boilermakers are an abysmal 1-6-1 ATS at home this season. Fortunately, Friday’s opponent is conducive to success in this environment.
Although Purdue barely knocked off Nebraska in Lincoln back in December, holding on for a 65-62 win, the scenario should play out far differently when you take the Huskers out of their home environment.
Nebraska is 1-5 ATS in road games this season, having lost on the road by 15-plus points to Power Six opponents St. John’s, Indiana, and Michigan State. Purdue is certainly superior to each of those opponents.
The talent disparity is significant on paper, as Purdue boasts the top-ranked adjusted offensive efficiency in all of college basketball, according to KenPom. Nebraska ranks 13th in the Big Ten and 175th in the country in the category.
Though the Huskers possess a top-50 defensive efficiency, they're going to have trouble holding down this elite Boilermaker attack, as Nebraska allows an additional 6.3 points per game on the road compared to its performance at home.
Purdue lost outright to Rutgers in its last home game before rattling off consecutive Big Ten road wins. I expect the Rutgers game to have been the wake-up call that Purdue needed to improve its focus at Mackey Arena.
