It's a heavyweight showdown in the Final Four, with two No. 1 seeds going head-to-head, and my Michigan vs. Arizona prediction and early picks expect a defensive battle that comes down to the wire.

Sticking with my original March Madness predictions, I'm backing the Wolverines to come out on top against a slightly less deep Wildcats team in Saturday's matchup from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Michigan is a 1.5-point betting favorite.

Michigan ML (-110)

These are the two best teams in the country, led by elite defenses. But I think the difference will be Michigan's shooting efficiency and willingness to shoot threes. The Wolverines are No. 6 in the nation in effective field-goal percentage (58.8%), and have an average 3-point rate (41.7%).

Arizona is No. 36 in effective field-goal percentage (55.1%) and is third-last in the country in 3-point rate (26.4%).

In a game featuring defensive juggernauts with massive frontcourts (Michigan is the rare team that matches Arizona's size), quality shooting will be everything in the end.

Score prediction: Michigan 75, Arizona 74

Michigan vs. Arizona line movement

Coming off a dominant performance over Tennessee in the Elite Eight, Michigan opened as a 1.5-point betting favorite at our best March Madness betting sites.

However, with this game pitting the two best teams in the country against each other (based on the advanced metrics), I wouldn't be surprised if it's a pick'em by tip-off on Saturday, especially with Michigan's spread shifting to plus-money.

These are the two highest-ranked teams by net rating and the two best defenses in the country, so I'm expecting an instant classic that comes down to the wire. But I'm also expecting points to be harder to come by, and this game total opened slightly high. I could see the public loving the Under and the game total dipping down closer to 154.5 throughout the week.
