Mark Few’s Bulldogs are off to a perfect start, but what’s been most impressive is their play on the defensive end. They haven’t allowed more than 68 points in a game so far this season.

Will Gonzaga’s defense travel?

The key question when handicapping this game is whether Gonzaga’s defense is real. If so, will it travel for its first road game of the year?

The Bulldogs rank fifth in adjusted defensive efficiency this year. They haven’t been higher than 29th in that metric since 2022. They’ve surrendered an average of 65.5 points in their last two wins over Oklahoma and Creighton. Both teams rank higher than Arizona State on KenPom.

Despite being ranked 19th in the latest AP Poll, Gonzaga’s ceiling is much higher by KenPom’s metrics. The Bulldogs are third in the country, per KenPom, including a top-10 ranking on both ends of the floor.

For me to fully buy into Gonzaga, this team has to maintain this level of defensive play. This is a good first test on the road, which is why I prefer the Under as my favorite Gonzaga vs. Arizona State prediction. 

This line has dropped to as low as 159.5 at FanDuel, highlighting the bargain at Caesars, where a $10 wager wins $9.09.

Braden Huff vs. Arizona State’s height

Arizona State might actually have the size to slow down Gonzaga’s attack a bit tonight. The Sun Devils rank ninth in the country in average height, which has helped them hold teams to a 50% clip on 2-pointers this year.

While my first thought was to bet the Under on Graham Ike’s scoring prop, I prefer the value of fading backup big man Braden Huff in this matchup instead. Huff hasn’t scored more than 14 points in a game this season. He’s averaged about 22 minutes per game this year.

I don’t expect Huff to have better results in his first road test of the year, so I’ll scoop up the -105 value on Under 14.5 points. A $10 wager earns $9.52.
