🏀 College Basketball Predictions Today: Eastern Washington to Stay Hot

Monday's college basketball slate is all about the mid-majors, as there are no power conference tournaments until tomorrow.

My college basketball predictions today are centered around two ATS plays from the Big Sky Tournament, as I am backing two of the hottest teams in the league as favorites. I add two player props from the Southern and Horizon Leagues, following the trends for two players' points and rebounds totals.

Weber State vs. Eastern Washington prediction: Eastern Washington -2.5 (-110) 

Prior to Eastern Washington losing its regular-season finale to Idaho, it had won eight straight and played like a near-top-50 team, per Bart Torvik. In that span, the Eagles had a plus-12% 3-point percentage edge and a plus-8% 2-point delta while playing as a top-10 2-point offense.

I am discrediting the loss to Idaho, as the Vandals had the league’s best rim defense. That moniker doesn’t apply to Weber State, who ranks 343rd nationally with a 57.1% 2-point percentage defense.

Northern Colorado vs. Montana prediction: Northern Colorado -3.5 (-115) 

Northern Colorado was the Big Sky’s pre-tournament favorite, and the only team with shorter than +330 odds at FanDuel (its +290 odds carry a 25.64% implied probability).

The Bears blew out Montana 85-57 just one week ago to end the regular season, after holding the Grizzlies to just 0.78 points per possession. 

Northern Colorado is one of the league’s hottest teams, ending the regular season with wins in nine of its final 10 games. Its defense does a great job of funneling opponents into mid-range shots, and it does not let teams share the basketball well, with the third-lowest assist rate against them all season. 

The scary thing for Montana fans is Northern Colorado didn’t play all that well in the 28-point win last Monday, as it made 36.7% of its 3-point attempts and only shot 10 free throws.

Cam Morris III Under 10.5 points (-125) vs. Furman

East Tennessee State power forward Cam Morris III averages 13.3 points per game and is one of three averaging double figures for the top-seeded Buccaneers. But I am siding with the oddsmakers and projecting him to stay well under his season total, as he faces a Furman team with the fifth-biggest lineup by average height, and one that was the SoCon's best interior defense. 

Morris scored nine and 12 points in the two regular season meetings against Furman. The 12-point game is somewhat inflated, as it was also the only time in his last 11 outings that he made a 3-pointer. 

Not only is Morris contending against a team that allows conference opponents to shoot just 47.1% inside the arc, but KenPom projects East Tennessee State's team total to be 72 points. With fellow frontcourt mate Blake Barkley's O/U set at 15.5 and juiced to -125 to the Over, that doesn't leave much scoring for Morris.

Michael Imariagbe Over 9.5 rebounds (-110) vs. Northern Kentucky

This Horizon League contest with an O/U of 158.5 doesn't suggest we will see many defensive stops, but the Norse play at such a quick tempo that the increase in number of possessions should more than make up for it.

Wright State ranks in the top 104 of all D-I teams in both offensive and defensive rebounding rate (top three in each in league play), and faces a Norse team that is seventh in both metrics against conference opponents.

The Raiders outrebounded the Norse by seven and 10 in the two regular season meetings, so there is a path for Imariagbe to improve upon his top-150 rebounding rate nationally both on the offensive and defensive glass. Though has gone Over this projected total in just twice in the last five games, one of those includes a 16-rebound effort against Northern Kentucky.

Today's college basketball slate could be a good one to get aggressive with, as oddsmakers may not be as well-versed in their data on mid-major teams. However, I am keeping all four of my plays to one unit, as funky things can happen the third time one plays an opponent.

The line has already started to move away from our two favorites, so I am happy to have locked into the best point spreads late Sunday night. I would lay off both Eastern Washington and Northern Colorado if the lines ballooned any further off of their current -3.5 and -4.5 spreads, respectively.

In addition to the four wagers above, I am adding a play on Alabama State’s moneyline odds as a fifth leg for this parlay.

The Hornets beat Alcorn State by 15 points in their lone regular season meeting, while the Braves are the SWAC's worst defense in terms of 2-point percentage and effective field goal percentage allowed. 

Adding Alabama State to this parlay brings the odds from +1122 to a more enticing +1513.
