Coming off a comeback road win over the Orlando Magic last night, the Atlanta Hawks return home to host the Oklahoma City Thunder as I break down my Thunder vs. Hawks player props.
My NBA picks include fading the two star point guards in this matchup. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m. ET at State Farm Arena on NBA TV. Oklahoma City is favored by 6.5 points after recording two double-overtime wins to start the season.

Consider me interested in Ajay Mitchell’s NBA Sixth Man of the Year odds. The Oklahoma City guard is 40/1 to win the award at FanDuel after averaging 21 points per game off the bench through two contests.
I’m not sure if Mitchell will maintain this role (26.5 minutes per game), but he will undoubtedly play a ton with Alex Caruso out. That’s why I’m surprised to see Mitchell’s points prop has only climbed from 10.5 to 11.5 since the last game.
Admittedly, bet365’s value is a bargain, as most of the best sports betting sites are sitting at 12.5 (I’d play this up to 12.5 anyway). A $10 bet can bring home an $8 profit with an implied probability of 55.56%.

Trae Young is averaging 5.5 assists per game so far this season. That’s one of the biggest surprises in the league, as he’s averaged double-digit dimes for three straight seasons, including an NBA-best 11.6 assists last year.
If you look under the hood, it’s even more concerning. Young is averaging 13.5 potential assists per contest, which ranks 12th in the league. For comparison, he averaged 20.7 potential assists last year.
With players converting about half of their potential assists on average, I’m going to fade Young against the best defensive team in basketball. This line closed at 11.5 last time out, so I’ll take the -130 value (56.52%) on this Under at Caesars to earn $7.69 on a $10 wager.
⬇️ Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Under 7.5 assists (-125) ⭐⭐⭐
Despite the prop on Young, it’s too early in the year to go crazy with the potential assists angle. That certainly applies when talking about Oklahoma City guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
SGA ranks fifth in the league with 16 potential assists per contest. That is nearly four more than his average last year.
While Jalen Williams’ absence plays a part in that, it’s worth noting that the Thunder have played four extra periods. And still, Gilgeous-Alexander has only averaged five assists per game this year. I like this Under, especially if Oklahoma City rolls on Saturday.
