Two NBA Cup quarterfinal losers will face off in the most notable matchup, with the Phoenix Suns hosting the Los Angeles Lakers. I’ve targeted two angles for that battle as part of Sunday’s NBA best bets.

Marcus Smart Over 13.5 points + assists (-109) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

With Austin Reaves out for the Lakers, Marcus Smart will likely get the largest increase in workload. He might start after scoring 26 points and adding one assist in his last game.

Smart is averaging 15.2 points and 4.1 assists in 173 minutes without Reaves this season, according to Databallr. That’s up from his average of 12.5 points and 3.4 assists in 231 minutes with Reaves.

The guard has cleared this combo line in eight of 15 games this season, including a 2-of-3 clip without Reaves.

Nikola Vucevic Over 15.5 points (-102) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Chicago Bulls center Nikola Vucevic is getting his lowest scoring line (15.5) since Nov. 19. 

However, the New Orleans Pelicans struggle to defend stretch bigs, which is why Naz Reid has averaged 18.5 points in two meetings against them. Chet Holmgren scored 26 to clear a closing total of 17.5 on Nov. 17.

Vucevic, who's averaging 15.7 points per contest, has cleared this line in 12 of his 23 games this year. At this -102 price tag at FanDuel, a $10 bet earns $9.80.

Zach LaVine Under 21.5 points (-111) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Sacramento Kings wing Zach LaVine started the year scoring 23-plus points in each of his first six games. Since then, LaVine has only cleared this line in five of his previous 15 contests, averaging 17.5 points during that stretch.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are underrated as a Western Conference contender, especially if Anthony Edwards (questionable) returns. Minnesota is the best team in basketball at defending spot-up 3-pointers.

I expect LaVine to struggle, cashing $9.01 on a $10 bet at this -111 value.

Mark Williams Over 11.5 points (-132) ⭐⭐⭐

FanDuel is alone among our best sports betting sites while offering Mark Williams’ scoring prop at 11.5, with the rest of the market sitting at 12.5 for the Suns center. It’s a line worth taking ahead of this revenge spot against the Lakers, who went back on their trade for Williams last February.

Williams is averaging 13 points per game this season, clearing this line in 12 of 21 contests. He scored 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting against Los Angeles on Dec. 1. Counting that performance, Williams has cashed this Over in seven of his previous nine matchups.
