Both the Knicks and Pacers are coming off upsets in the second round of the NBA playoffs, with a trip to the NBA Finals on the line between these two long-time rivals.

Though in different divisions, this rivalry dates back to 1977, with it escalating in the 1990s when the two met six times in the playoffs, highlighted by Reggie Miller and director/Knicks fan Spike Lee going at it.

The rivalry was reignited in last year's playoffs when the Pacers took down the Knicks in seven games in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

This time around, though, New York is in better shape with Karl-Anthony Towns helping to elevate this offense - it was fifth in the NBA in rating this season (118.5).

Towns should make the biggest difference against a team that struggled against NBA fives this season, allowing them to pull down 15.34 boards per game and average over 21 points.

Towns can be a massive difference maker in Game 1, alongside Jalen Brunson, and one of the key reasons Tom Thibodeau's team covers in a high-scoring matchup.

The other reason is Brunson, who should put up similar numbers against Indiana to what he averaged in the Knicks' opening playoff series against the Detroit Pistons (31.5 PPG). The Pacers were in the back half of the league in points allowed per game this season (115.1).

However, Tyrese Haliburton has the talent to keep it somewhat close until the end, with the Pacers point guard likely needing to lean on his long-range game in this series.

Haliburton averaged three made 3-pointers per game in the regular season and is coming off a 6-for-10 performance from deep against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
