The Lakers (13-16) recently found out that forward Anthony Davis will be out for at least a month with a right foot injury. So far this season, he leads the team in points per game (27.4) and rebounds per game (12.1).

Point guard Patrick Beverley is also listed as day-to-day and is a question mark for tonight’s game as the team travels to Phoenix. The Lakers are 6-4 in their last 10 and winners of their last two contests, though they will certainly miss Davis as they head into the new year.

On the Suns' (18-12) side, both guard Devin Booker and center Deandre Ayton are listed as day-to-day, while guard Cameron Payne and forward Cameron Johnson are listed as out. The Suns have won their last two contests, but previously were on a five-game losing streak, and are 4-6 in their last ten.

Lakers vs Suns Pick

Lakers +10 (-107) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

While the Lakers have been a disappointment for the most part this season, they’ve started to play better basketball as of late and are nearing the .500 mark. They will certainly miss the absence of Anthony Davis, but if either Booker or Ayton are forced to sit for the Suns, then the matchup may look more evenly matched than the spread suggests.

LeBron James missed the last contest between these teams back in November when the Suns beat the Lakers by 10 at home, and his presence should make a big difference for Los Angeles. He has averaged 27.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game against the Suns in his career, and has scored 31 or more against the Suns in four of his last six contests.

Lastly, the Suns have struggled as of late, going 4-6 in their last 10 contests, including two losses to the tanking Houston Rockets. While they should be expected to sit near the top of the standings by season’s end, this may be the ideal time to play them for the Lakers.

I like the Lakers odds of covering the spread tonight.

While you can get the extra half-point from BetMGM, I prefer the better odds at PointsBet at -107, compared to -115. FanDuel offers the lowest spread at -9.5 if you prefer the Suns in this contest.
