There was a seismic shift in the NBA on Sunday, just hours before Game 7 of the NBA Finals. Kevin Durant is changing teams again following a blockbuster move that sends him to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in this year's draft, and five second-round picks, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.

It's a massive shakeup for both Houston and the Phoenix Suns, but especially the Rockets, who vaulted up the 2026 NBA finals odds at our best NBA betting sites.

The Rockets were already a young and rising team that finished 52-30 this past season before a highly competitive first-round loss when they pushed the Golden State Warriors to Game 7. That came after four straight campaigns of missing the playoffs, two of which featured 60-plus losses.

Their outlook is soaring after earning a postsesaon berth in just Ime Udoka's second season as head coach. And now the team has rapidly skyrocketed into the top tier of championship contenders with Durant reportedly aboard.

The Rockets were in the top 10 in mid-May when the 2026 NBA championship odds were first released. However, they were firmly in the second tier, and far removed from the true behemoths of the league.

That changed swiftly on Sunday.

Date Odds Implied probability Profit ($10 bet)
May 13 +1600 5.88% $160
June 22 +750 11.76% $75

Colossal doesn't even begin to describe that swing. The Rockets moved from +1600 to +750 over that period, shifting from seventh by the odds all the way to second and behind only the Thunder, who are the favorites to take Game 7 of the NBA Finals tonight in our Thunder vs. Pacers prediction.

Regardless of how that crowning affair turns out, the Rockets will be trailing only the defending champions in their own conference in the odds for next year's title. There's a fair bit of distance between the Thunder at +240 and the Rockets, but the latter is one of just two teams listed below +900.

The jump in implied probability is gargantuan too, with the Rockets' chances moving up nearly 6%. That's what happens when an MVP and 15-time All-Star joins a starting lineup that already featured Amen Thompson and Alperen Sengun, the latter of whom made his first All-Star team this past season.

The Rockets paid a hefty price, but a 13th-ranked offense last season is set to improve significantly.
