Golden State earned a 76-74 win over Washington in the first head-to-head meeting on May 21, but that was at home. The Valkyries have been worse on the road, going 4-9 away from Chase Center compared to their 8-4 clip at home.

That matters to me, as this spread would indicate Golden State is the better team on a neutral court. I’m not sure that should be the case, particularly considering the Mystics are 9-5 at home this season.

The Valkyries have played two games since losing their All-Star, Kayla Thornton, for the remainder of the season. They are 1-1, earning an upset victory over the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday after suffering a 31-point loss to the Connecticut Sun on Sunday.

The real version of Golden State is somewhere in the middle, which is a team good enough to contend with Washington for the final playoff spot. However, for my best Valkyries vs. Mystics prediction, I’ll take the short spread with the home team.

Washington cracked triple-digits for the second time this year in Tuesday’s 103-86 win over the Chicago Sky. The Mystics had three starters score 18-plus points, led by a 28-point effort from Sonia Citron.

The Valkyries are still figuring out their identity without Thornton, who was the team’s leading scorer and a primary defender on big guards. The Mystics, meanwhile, are becoming increasingly confident with their young group.

I’d lay the points with Washington at -2 or better as a four-star prediction.

Golden State will have a more difficult time slowing down perimeter threats without Thornton - particularly players like Brittney Sykes, who want to get to the rim. Sykes is averaging 16.1 points per game for Washington this season.

This scoring prop is at least one point too low, as Sykes has cleared this line in four of her past seven outings. She scored 30 against Golden State earlier this year, but I’d settle for 14 points on Thursday.
