I'm not really overreacting to a few games in this case. If you read my preseason WNBA championship picks, I was higher on the Sky than most entering this season. The market was underrating a team that went through a roster overhaul in the offseason.
The market also might have been too high on the Dream, who have plenty of promising young pieces after crushing the 2023 WNBA Draft. But Atlanta is likely still a year or two away from being a serious contender, even with Rhyne Howard the only player between the two teams to be among the top 15 players by the WNBA MVP odds.
For this game, my projections consider this to be a toss-up on Atlanta's home court. So, we are happy to take the full +4 via the best sportsbooks, especially when it is the best price in the market. The Sky have already covered the spread in all three games in which they were priced as underdogs this year, going 2-1 outright in such scenarios.
The Sky have leaned on their defensive identity to start the season, ranking third in points per game allowed (73.5) and second in points per 100 possessions (87.5) thus far. The Dream are eighth and 10th in those respective categories.
On the offensive end, Chicago has four players averaging in double figures on the young season. Kahleah Copper and Marina Mabrey are leading the way with averages of 15.8 points and 15.7 points per game, respectively. And this duo figures to only get better as they become more familiar with each other after Mabrey was traded from the Dallas Wings in the offseason.
We like taking the Sky at anything +3 or better on the spread for this four-star pick, but would be willing to consider the moneyline for a juicier payout, as well.
