The CFL playoffs are finally here with the Ottawa Redblacks and Toronto Argonauts kicking off the action on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET from BMO Field in Toronto.

  • Our Redblacks vs. Argonauts prediction expects a high-scoring game between two teams that have been lackluster on defense as of late
  • Ottawa has the longest Grey Cup odds of the six remaining teams
  • Toronto is a 6.5-point home favorite as it looks to avenge last year's early playoff exit

The last time these two teams played on Oct. 19, the Argos won 38-31. Could Saturday's matchup feature a similar outcome?

CFL picks confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale.

Over 51.5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

It's been an erratic season for the Argonauts, but they seem to have found a rhythm as of late. They closed out the season going 3-1, and beating the Montreal Alouettes, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and the Redblacks - the loss came to the Edmonton Elks in a game they rested their starters.

Since his return from suspension on Aug. 22, Chad Kelly has helped Toronto put up 27-plus points in seven of nine games. And the Argos averaged the most points per game in the CFL this season (28.6).

Meanwhile, the Redblacks' once sturdy defense has crumbled. Ottawa has given up at least 27 points in eight of its last 10 games - teams have averaged 29.9 points against them over that stretch.

The last time Kelly was on the field, he completed 80.8% of his passes for 331 yards and three scores against this defense. Expect much of the same on Saturday.

Dru to the rescue

Since returning from injury, Dru Brown has the Redblacks' offense looking like June Jones is in charge. He closed out the season by throwing for 845 yards and seven touchdowns in games against Toronto and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

With a talented quartet of receivers led by Justin Hardy and Dominique Rhymes, Brown can continue putting up huge numbers against Toronto. The Argos allowed the second-highest QB rating (105.5) and second-most passing yards per game in the CFL this season (296.8).

With both QBs playing their best football of the season, and the defenses falling apart, expect points to be scored. If the Over hits, a $10 bet pays an $8.70 profit.
