The CFL season is whittling down, and not much is expected to change in the CFL Most Outstanding Player race, so betting on anyone other than Mitchell, Adams, or Harris seems silly at this point.
Harris is leading the No. 1 team in the CFL standings and has proven to be the most efficient passer; Adams has helped reinvigorate the Stampeders and has a 3-0 record against the Cats and Riders; Mitchell has put Hamilton on his back and turned back the clock to his old gunslinging ways.
So should you bet on the QB leading the best team, the QB helping to turn a franchise around, or the QB who's the most important player to his team's success?
I lean toward the last option, especially with Hamilton near the top of the Grey Cup odds behind Mitchell's video-game-like numbers. Not only does he have the Tiger-Cats sitting at No. 2 in points per game (29.9), but he leads the league in passing touchdowns (24), and he's second in passing yards (3,653).
The Eastern Washington product is the only QB in the league with more than 12 touchdown passes and fewer than eight interceptions. And he's on pace to have a better statistical season than either of his previous CFL MOP seasons with the Stampeders.
If Mitchell keeps up his pace, he's on track to throw for over 5,400 yards and 36 touchdowns. If he does that, and the odds say he has a 46.51% probability of doing it, he's a good bet to win CFL MOP and turn a $10 bet into a $11.50 profit.
