The last time these two bottom-dwelling squads met, the Elks beat the Redblacks 39-33 as a 2.5-point underdog. Ottawa had franchise QB Dru Brown in that game and still couldn't win, so how will they fare without their QB1 this time around? Not well would be my guess, given that in the five games Brown's backups have thrown double-digit passes this season, Ottawa is 1-4.
Dustin Crum is set to start for Ottawa, and while his mobility adds a wrinkle to the offense, he's been unimpressive in the four games he's seen extended action in. And it doesn't help his cause that the Elks' defense has come alive in recent weeks. After looking like the worst defense in the league to start the season, Edmonton has held three of its last four opponents to fewer than 23 points while allowing just 22.7 points per game during that stretch.
The offense has been better, too, since head coach Mark Kilam made the switch to Fajardo at QB. Over the last four games with Fajardo at the helm, Edmonton is outscoring opponents 93 to 91; keep in mind, three of their four opponents have been Grey Cup favorites.
