The Edmonton Elks look to steal a win on the road as they visit a banged-up Montreal Alouettes squad at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET (TSN/RDS, CFL+). Despite Montreal remaining a Grey Cup odds contender, our Elks vs. Alouettes prediction expects Cody Fajardo to get revenge on his former team.

Edmonton's 1-6 record is slightly misleading. The Elks have been on the cusp of victory in each of their last two games - a 28-24 loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and a 21-18 loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders - with Fajardo injecting some consistency under center since taking over as the starter. While Edmonton did fall short of victory in its last two games, both games were against QBs who are leading the CFL Most Outstanding Player odds.

Montreal poses an easier matchup with Davis Alexander still out and McLeod Bethel-Thompson struggling. My Elks vs. Alouettes prediction projects Edmonton to win by a score of 24-20.

Since Fajardo took over as the starter two weeks ago, Edmonton's offense has been far more consistent. The former Grey Cup MVP has helped the Elks only get outscored 49-42 against the two teams atop the Grey Cup odds. In those two games, Fajardo went 46-for-58 (79.3%) with 603 passing yards (10.4 YPA). At 33 years old, he looks as good as ever and should be able to push a Montreal defense that gave up 34 last week to the Roughriders.

It helps that he has one of the most underrated playmaking corps in the league, led by Justin Rankin and Steven Dunbar Jr. However, backing the Elks actually has more to do with Montreal's offensive woes and Edmonton's defense starting to find its groove. In the last two weeks, the Elks have held the CFL's two highest scoring teams - the Tiger-Cats (31.6 PPG) and Roughriders (29.1 PPG) - to below their season averages.

Meanwhile, the Als' hot start has been deflated by injuries, namely losing Alexander to the six-game injury list. Since their 3-0 start to the season, they're just 1-4 against the spread and averaging 18.4 points per game. Bethel-Thompson has struggled immensely, and he'll be without Tyson Philpot and Austin Mack for this game.

There are limited player prop markets available for this matchup across the best sports betting apps in Canada, so I'm backing the Elks' best player to find the end zone twice in one game for the third time this season. Rankin is having a breakout year and is the only player in the league with over 300 rushing yards and 250 receiving yards.

That ability to impact the game as both a runner and receiver should help his chances of scoring twice against Montreal. In the two games he's scored multiple touchdowns, he's done it by running one in and catching one.
