The New York Yankees suffered a devastating loss to the Texas Rangers in extra innings in yesterday’s series opener, and my Yankees vs. Rangers prediction expects Texas to build off of that momentum and hand New York a fifth straight loss today. First pitch from Globe Life Field in Arlington is set for 8:05 p.m. ET.

Texas had entered yesterday’s series opener having lost eight of its last 11 games against New York, and five of seven overall. But New York’s season reached a new low this past weekend after being swept by the Miami Marlins for the first time in franchise history, and its 10 losses since the All-Star break are why I am backing Texas with my Yankees vs. Rangers prediction.

New York had the perfect opportunity to win yesterday’s series opener with Max Fried on the mound. However, Fried was not as sharp as usual, and the fact that New York used arguably its five best relievers in last night’s loss has me backing Texas with five stars of confidence as my Yankees vs. Rangers best bet.

Entering yesterday, the Yankees have been one of the worst teams in the league since the All-Star break. Their rotation ERA of 5.59 ranked 26th, their 5.29 bullpen ERA ranked 23rd, and they committed the most errors (16) of any team in the league.

With New York’s 18-28 record since June 13 being the second-worst in the American League, Texas’ -134 moneyline odds seem like a steal. The value is best at FanDuel, the only one of the best sports betting sites with a price lower than -135.

I am doubling down on my Texas moneyline play with Eovaldi to record the win as my best Yankees vs. Rangers player prop, despite him being under .500 (5-6) in 23 career appearances (20 starts) against New York.

Two of Eovaldi’s five wins against the Yankees have come within his last five starts, a stretch that also includes being the hard-luck loser in an earlier start this year despite allowing just one earned run over six innings.

Eovaldi is coming off winning the American League Pitcher of the Month award for July, as he won all five starts while pitching to a 0.59 ERA. He has held current Yankees hitters to a combined .223/.252/.405 slash line, and while New York is expected to activate Aaron Judge off the IL today, the slugger is batting just .160 with a 44% strikeout rate since the All-Star break.

I am headed to bet365 for this play, where a $10 winning wager would net $15.50 in profits compared to $14.50 through DraftKings’ shorter +145 odds.
