Our WBC pitching betting guide provides you with expert analysis from Andrew Brennan, who's gone +84 units on MLB betting during the last three seasons.
We're looking at the biggest names and which teams they pitch for, and examining how the rules unique to the WBC will affect your bets before and during the tournament. As always, our WBC 2026 odds & expert picks is the ultimate hub for all your betting needs for the highly anticipated tournament.
🏆 Cy Young candidates in WBC: Skubal, Skenes lead Team USA
There are a handful of 2026 Cy Young candidates set to pitch in the WBC, with four of them in MLB's National League. Here are the five best starting pitchers set to participate in the 2026 WBC, with their Cy Young odds via DraftKings.
| Pitcher (Country) | 2025 stats | 2025 Cy Young finish | 2026 Cy Young odds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tarik Skubal (USA) | 13-6, 2.21 ERA, 0.89 WHIP | 1st (AL) | +350 |
| Paul Skenes (USA) | 10-10, 1.97 ERA, 0.95 WHIP | 1st (NL) | +225 |
| Cristopher Sanchez (Dominican Republic) | 13-5, 2.50 ERA, 1.06 WHIP | 2nd (NL) | +1000 |
| Yoshinobu Yamamoto (Japan) | 12-8, 2.49 ERA, 0.99 WHIP | 3rd (NL) | +500 |
| Logan Webb (USA) | 15-11, 3.22 ERA, 1.23 WHIP | 4th (NL) | +2000 |
As you can see, Team USA features three starters who finished in the top five of their respective Cy Young races last season, including both winners. For his part, Tarik Skubal will pitch only one game in the WBC during pool play and then will return to the Detroit Tigers for the remainder of spring training. He's unlikely to go max-effort in that contest, too, as it's expected to come against Pool B underdog Great Britain. When it comes to Skubal, I'd turn my attention to our MLB awards long-shot bets rather than put forth too much effort (or money) into his WBC props.
However, Paul Skenes WBC props will be extremely enticing, as he will now certainly serve as Team USA's ace with Skubal all but checked out. I'm all-in on the big right-hander's Pittsburgh Pirates this season, which is why they headlined my MLB win totals sleeper picks and predictions.
When it comes to Yoshinobu Yamamoto betting value, there isn't likely to be a ton on Overs. Everyone saw what he did during the 2025 World Series, and I assume the best sports betting sites will be looking to take advantage of public perception with heavily juiced odds on Yamamoto's Overs. If you have the stomach for it, that could be a good spot to target some of his Unders.
Strikeout props will be popular for all of these pitchers, so let's take a look at how they fared in that regard in 2025.
⚾️ Strikeout data for top five WBC starters
- Tarik Skubal: 11.10 strikeouts per nine innings, 32.2% strikeout rate, 32.1% called + swinging strike rate
- Paul Skenes: 10.36 K/9, 29.5 K%, 29.3 CSW%
- Cristopher Sanchez: 9.45 K/9, 26.3 K%, 31.4 CSW%
- Yoshinobu Yamamoto: 10.42 K/9, 29.4 K%, 30 CSW%
- Logan Webb: 9.74 K/9, 26.2 K%, 30.4 CSW%
As you can see, each of the top five pitchers managed more than a strikeout per inning in 2025, so as long as their workload isn't limited beyond what WBC rules state, their strikeout Overs could definitely be in play.
Other than Skubal, each of Skenes, Sanchez, Yamamoto, and Webb are expected to get more than one start during the tournament based on their status as their team's most important pitchers and their team's respective odds to qualify from its pool.
💪 Pool play aces
We've provided a more detailed look at pool play with our World Baseball Classic pool odds, but what about the pitchers specifically? As previously mentioned, three of the pools feature legitimate Cy Young candidates, with Pool A being a bit more of a question mark when it comes to the group's best pitcher. Let's take a look at the best pitchers for each team in Pool A:
| Pitcher (Country) | Team | 2025 stats |
|---|---|---|
| Seth Lugo (Puerto Rico) | Kansas City Royals | 8-7, 4.15 ERA, 1.29 WHIP |
| Jameson Taillon (Canada) | Chicago Cubs | 11-7, 3.68 ERA, 1.06 WHIP |
| Livan Moinelo (Cuba) | Fukuoka Softbank Hawks (NPB) | 12-3, 1.46 ERA, 0.92 WHIP |
| Jose Quintana (Colombia) | Colorado Rockies | 11-7, 3.96 ERA, 1.29 WHIP |
| Logan Allen (Panama) | Cleveland Guardians | 8-11, 4.25 ERA, 1.40 WHIP |
You could make the argument that any of Lugo, Taillon, or Quintana is the "best" pitcher in Pool A, though Moinelo destroyed opposing hitters in Nippon Professional Baseball last year. This could be a bit of a sleeper pool when it comes to pitching props, as the lack of star power could provide us with some tasty odds, especially if these guys go on the same day as the aforementioned Cy Young candidates.
Best pitching matchups
The pool play pitching matchups have yet to be set, but be sure you're following us on X, as we'll be posting our best bets for the WBC each day.
If the two World Baseball Classic odds favorites square off in the finals like they did in 2023, there are a handful of potential epic USA vs. Japan pitching matchups, including, of course, Skenes vs. Yamamoto.
🗒️ How will WBC rules affect pitching props
- How many pitches can a pitcher throw in the WBC 2026: Pitchers can't throw more than 65 pitches in a single game in pool play, more than 80 pitches in the quarterfinals, and more than 95 pitches in the championship round. The only exception is if passing that limit comes while completing a batter's plate appearance.
- Pitching rest requirements WBC: Pitchers who throw 50 or more pitches in a single contest will be required to have a minimum of four days' rest before he can be used again. If they throw 30 or more pitches, it will require one day of rest, and pitchers who throw on consecutive days will also be required to rest for a day before pitching again.
How to bet WBC pitching props
I think it's best to take a conservative approach when it comes to pitching props in the WBC. Aside from the rules limiting heavy workloads, some front-line starters may opt to take a bit off their level of effort, especially in pool play. So though you think, "Tarik Skubal vs. Great Britain, that's an easy Over," it's important to remember that he's already made the Tigers his top priority. So while he's expected to throw around 55 pitches, those 55 pitches could be at 60% effort.
Analysis will have to be much deeper than simply betting on good pitcher goes Over vs. bad team. For more insight on how to bet on pitching props, check out our World Baseball Classic betting guide, and our daily picks will help you, too.
