📡 SBR Edge: Best NRFI Bets Today for Tuesday (April 14)

After winning six straight, we've hit a small bump in the road - I'm blaming Garrett Crochet for completely melting down last night. Let's get back in the win column today with a 15-game schedule on this fine Tuesday. We're targeting the Mariners vs. Padres and Mets vs. Dodgers to get us six simple outs. Let's sweep the board tonight.

šŸ’° Best NRFI bets today for Tuesday

Mariners vs. Padres NRFI (-150) - 9:40 p.m. ET

  • Bryan Woo (1.50 ERA) vs. Michael King (3.24 ERA)
  • NRFI records: Mariners (5-12) vs. Padres (11-5)

If you've been following my plays over the last year, you know there aren't many bigger Bryan Woo fans than me. It's Woo day, so we're backing him to help us get six outs. Over 77 plate appearances, the Padres own just a .228 xBA against him, which includes an 0-for-9 spell from Manny Machado. Michael King owns the Mariners in this matchup, too, striking out Seattle at a 31% clip while limiting them to a .254 xwOBA

We're dropping two units on our play of the day, just the third time this season we've done so. I'd price this bet closer to -190 betting odds.

Mets vs. Dodgers NRFI (-145) - 7:45 p.m. ET

  • Nolan McLean (2.70 ERA) vs. Yoshinobu Yamamoto (2.50 ERA)
  • NRFI records: Mets (7-10) vs. Dodgers (9-7)

Nolan McLean has gone two straight starts without allowing a run in the first frame, and has been one of the more efficient pitchers in baseball to begin the season. He's allowed just five earned runs over 15.2 innings pitched, giving me all the confidence in the world to get us three outs, even against the Dodgers' vaunted top three. On the other side is a man who needs no introduction, your World Series Game 7 hero. He's limited Bo Bichette and Francisco Lindor to just two hits against him over nine plate appearances, and has yet to give up a run in the first frame all year.

šŸ’” How I'm betting NRFI picks today (April 14)

Follow all of our MLB analysis and expert predictions for baseball season.

No matter the day, I look at how a pitcher matches up specifically to the lineup he's taking on. What's their expected batting average against him? What's their strikeout rate? What's each team's NRFI record? More specifically, how do the top three batters fare against a specific pitcher? These are all thoughts that need to run through your mind before placing a high-variance bet like a NRFI, and slide your units accordingly.

ā“ NRFI betting FAQ

What does NRFI mean in baseball betting?

NRFI stands for "No Run First Inning." It's a popular MLB bet that neither team will score in the first inning of a game, and the bet settles after just six outs (three per half-inning).

What does YRFI mean?

YRFI stands for "Yes Run First Inning" - the opposite of an NRFI. This MLB prop bet cashes if there's at least one run by either team in the first inning.

What should I look for when betting NRFIs?

Each team's starting pitcher is the biggest factor in cashing a NRFI bet, but you should also focus on each team's NRFI records (home vs. away) and each lineup's first-inning tendencies. Recent form can also play a bigger role than full-season numbers.
