Yordan Alvarez leads all hitters with 35 long balls, and while he may be the safest of the home run predictions today, he is still a great value play to go deep because of the opponent he is facing.

With my other three MLB home run picks, I get alongside two rookies having breakout seasons in Munetaka Murakami and Sal Stewart. I balance those wagers on youthful players with one of the most veteran sluggers in the game, Salvador Perez.

💣 Best home run predictions & odds today

Home run pick: Sal Stewart (+395)

Sal Stewart made history as one of four rookies since 1920 (when RBI became an official statistic) to lead the Majors in RBIs entering August. His 84 RBI are the second-most among those four players, trailing only Hall of Famer Ted Williams’ 86 in 1939.

Stewart looks to add to his total of 23 home runs, after becoming the eighth Reds player to belt 20 homers in their rookie season. With one more long ball today, Stewart would tie Joey Votto from 2008 for the second-most by a rookie in Reds franchise history.

📡 SBR Edge: Rare power and speed

On Tuesday, Sal Stewart turned in his third game with a home run and a stolen base, and only three players have more such games this season.

Home run pick: Munetaka Murakami (+390)

Munetaka Murakami homered in Friday’s series-opening win, which tied him with Kazuma Okamoto this year for the most ever by a Japanese-born rookie. Murakami made history in other ways with that long ball, as he, Colson Montgomery, and Miguel Vargas became the second trio in White Sox history to all hit home runs in at least five games in a single season (they joined Jose Valentin, Paul Konerko, and Joe Crede from 2004).

Murakami is in his much better hitting split facing the right-handed Griffin Jax. Murakami has a 1.028 OPS against righties, with 20 of his 24 home runs coming in those matchups.

Home run pick: Yordan Alvarez (+245)

After Yordan Alvarez’s 2-for-3 performance where he drove in two runs and reached base four times on Friday, that brought him to a .432 batting average with eight home runs and 14 RBI in 11 games versus the Rangers this season.

Torching Texas is not new to Alvarez, as he has been doing that his whole career. His 1.106 OPS against the Rangers entering this weekend was the third-highest career OPS of any player in MLB history against Texas (min. 200 PA, including playoffs), and trailed only Mickey Mantle and Vladimir Guerrero.

Alvarez has a great chance to add to his MLB lead of home runs when facing Kumar Rocker, against whom he is 3-for-4 with two homers.

Home run pick: Salvador Perez (+270)

Salvador Perez is already the Royals franchise leader in home runs, and now looks to add to that record at MLB’s most hitter-friendly ballpark, Coors Field. A hailstorm before Friday’s game created favorable pitching conditions, which resulted in a low-scoring 3-1 game. The forecast is much different today, and the ball should be flying out of the yard.

Kyle Freeland has pitched to a 6.33 ERA and .303 OBA at home this season. More concerning is that 19 of his 21 home runs have come against right-handed batters, which bodes well for Perez to build off his .854 OPS from July.
