Astros vs. Tigers Prediction, Odds & Best Bets: Value in Detroit as Underdogs

The Detroit Tigers are looking to pour salt into the Houston Astros' gaping wounds, so what should you expect from today's game?

The Houston Astros, shut out in three consecutive games for the first time in 40 years, will hope their bats come alive in time to avoid a three-game sweep at the hands of the Detroit Tigers.

Our Astros vs. Tigers prediction backs Detroit as +115 moneyline underdogs, given how unreliable Houston’s offense has been.

While we could have faded some of Houston’s batters with our Astros vs. Tigers best bets, given the team’s recent struggles, we instead back a Detroit slugger who has been a thorn in Houston’s side throughout his career.

First pitch from Comerica Park in Detroit is set for 1:05 p.m. ET (MLBN).

Charlie Morton has made quality starts in two of three outings since landing in Detroit at the trade deadline. He has shown some of his most elite strikeout potential of late in the new uniform, and I am looking to him to feed off the solid two starts from Jack Flaherty and Tarik Skubal in this series to cash my Astros vs. Tigers prediction.

Morton threw 98 pitches and induced 12 whiffs in his last start against the Minnesota Twins, finishing with a 30% CSW%.

In the start before that, he struck out seven consecutive batters, making him just the third age 40-plus pitcher to strike out that many batters in a row during the expansion era (since 1961).

There was a time I never would have considered opposing Framber Valdez with my Astros vs. Tigers best bet, as Houston won 13 consecutive starts of his in a row from early May to late July.

But since then, the Astros are 0-4 and have been outscored 20-6 in Valdez’s last four starts, despite two of those outings coming against some of MLB’s worst teams (Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals).

By making this wager at Caesars, bettors are increasing their potential returns, with $11.50 in profits on a winning $10 wager compared to the $11 through the +110 odds at some of the other best sports betting sites.

Greene entered Tuesday having played 19 career games against Houston, and his eye-popping numbers in that span have me backing him with my best Astros vs. Tigers player prop.

In those 19 games, Greene batted .361 with six home runs, 14 runs scored, 15 RBIs, and a 1.086 OPS. He was especially hot over his previous nine games overall, recording six extra-base hits (three home runs) and eight RBIs.

Greene is just one dinger shy of his first 30-home run season, but I am passing on his +750 odds to go deep given Valdez’s ability to keep the ball in the yard.

Instead, these odds are a great value for him to drive in a run, compared to the +210 odds (carrying a 32.26% implied probability) at the rest of our best sports betting apps.

❓MLB betting FAQs

How do betting odds work?

Betting odds represent the probability of a specific outcome and determine how much money you can win on a bet. There are three main formats: American odds, Decimal odds, and Fractional odds. In the U.S., American odds are most common.

What is the run line in baseball?

The run line in baseball is a form of point spread betting unique to MLB. It typically sets a standard spread of 1.5 runs, meaning the favored team must win by at least two runs to cover the run line, while the underdog can lose by one run or win outright to cover.

What does moneyline mean in betting?

The moneyline in betting refers to a wager on which team or player will win the game outright, with no point spread involved. It’s the most straightforward type of sports bet - just pick the winner.
