Both Wyoming and Colorado are coming off road losses of 16-plus points, but I explain in my Wyoming vs. Colorado prediction why to be more wary of the Buffaloes entering this matchup.

Colorado is a 13.5-point betting favorite, with kickoff from Folsom Field (Boulder, Colo.) set for 10:15 p.m. ET on Saturday night (ESPN).

Along with the Cowboys' point spread as the first of my college football picks, I identify a running back at +120 anytime touchdown scorer odds as part of my college football predictions for Week 4.

Wyoming +14.5 alternate spread (-135) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Wyoming failed to cover a 23.5-point spread in last week’s 31-6 loss to Utah, but the Cowboys covering the alternate spread is my best bet this week against a Buffaloes team that continues to get the benefit of the doubt from the public despite consistently erratic play.

The Cowboys played a physical Utah team to a 3-0 defensive struggle through the first half last week, and keeping the game close allowed them to rely on their power rushing attack. Despite trailing by three scores in the fourth quarter, Wyoming still finished with 34 rushing attempts to 23 passing attempts for the game. That built off its 55% designed rushing plays through the first two weeks.

Wyoming’s rushing attack will be the key to staying close this week and keeping the Folsom Field crowd out of the game. Despite Colorado’s secondary being decimated with four key players out for last week’s loss to Houston, the Cougars elected to use their physical advantage up front and pounded the Buffaloes with 53 rushing attempts.

Even though Houston averaged fewer than four yards per carry, the wear of having to defend that many running plays over 60 minutes should spill over into this week.

Given that DraftKings charged less than the standard -110 juice to back the standard +13.5-point spread, I took advantage of its favorable price to adjust this line through the key number of 14. The new -135 odds carry a 57.45% implied probability and would pay out $7.41 in profits on a winning $10 wager.

Best Wyoming vs. Colorado player prop pick

Our college football player prop odds tool shows the best odds for every market across legal sportsbooks in your area.

Sam Scott anytime touchdown scorer (+120) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Though the player prop selections at the time of this writing for the Wyoming-Colorado tilt are limited mostly to just anytime touchdown scorer odds, this is the bet I was most likely to land on anyway given the generous plus-money value.

Last week, Houston outgained Colorado 431-300 despite entering the matchup ranked outside the top 110 nationally in both pass and rush success rate. That is an ominous sign for the Buffaloes going forward, and Cowboys running back Sam Scott should be the biggest beneficiary of a worn-down Colorado defense.

Scott’s 44 carries are more than double those of the next-highest teammate, and positive regression suggests he is due to score more than one touchdown every three games if that workload continues. Through bet365’s +120 odds compared to Scott’s +100 odds on the low end of the market, a $10 winning wager would net $10 in profits.

Wyoming vs. Colorado odds analysis

Wyoming opened as a 13.5-point underdog and was bet as low as +12.5 at several best sports betting apps throughout the week. But that number saw some buyback on the Buffaloes, and the line has most commonly returned to the opening number of +13.5. Given the initial support was on the Cowboys, we are not likely to see this line get to the key number of +14 before kickoff.

The total has been the much more stable number, not wavering off the opening line of 44.5. The juice though has evened out at most sportsbooks with a price of -110 on either side of the number.

How do college football odds work?

When betting on college football, the point spread shows how many points the favorite needs to win by in order to cash the bet. For example, a favorite of -3 must win by more than 3 points to cover the spread, while an underdog at +3 must win outright or lose by fewer than 3 points to cover the spread.

Moneyline odds represent the payout for picking the outright winner (+200 means a $100 bet wins $200, while -200 means a $200 bet wins $100). Over/Unders let you wager on whether the combined total will be higher or lower than the set number.
