My best Tulane vs. Ole Miss prediction and early picks based on the opening odds for their College Football Playoff first-round game focus on the rushing attack of No. 11 Tulane.
No. 6 Ole Miss is a 17.5-point betting favorite ahead of Saturday's kickoff from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Miss., at 3:30 p.m. ET (TNT). Ole Miss dominated Tulane, winning 45-10 and leading 23-3 at halftime, when these two teams met in late September. My college football predictions will answer whether Tulane can keep it closer this time.

Tulane +17.5 (-110) ⭐⭐⭐
In the first meeting, Ole Miss outgained Tulane 548-282, as Tulane managed just 104 passing yards. Tulane’s starting quarterback, Jake Retzlaff, was benched in that game, but he’s played very well since, throwing for at least 231 yards in seven of his last nine games.
But what really gives me hope for Tulane covering is how easily they ran the ball against Ole Miss the first time. They managed 178 yards on 39 carries, for an average of 4.5 per attempt. Ole Miss has allowed 150.5 rushing yards per game this season, fourth-most in the SEC.
Ole Miss is averaging 37.3 points per game, and they’re going to score plenty here, but Tulane did just hold North Texas, the highest-scoring team in the nation, to 21 points. BetMGM’s price of -110 implies a 52.38% chance that Tulane covers. A $10 bet would profit $9.09.

Tulane vs. Ole Miss opening odds
- Moneyline: Tulane +625 | Ole Miss -950
- Spread: Tulane +16.5 (-105) | Ole Miss -16.5 (-115)
- Over/Under: Over 55.5 (-110) | Under 55.5 (-110)
Tulane vs. Ole Miss line movement
Ole Miss may have won the first game by 35, but the Rebels aren’t getting an overwhelming amount of love here. Though the spread has moved from 16.5 to 17.5, with how dominant Ole Miss was, I would have thought this number would be closer to 20 by now. I expect the spread to still move in favor of the SEC team, but probably never cross 19.5.
The total has increased to 56.5. I don’t expect much more movement, as even when Ole Miss scored 45 in the first game, the total still only hit 55.
