Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is the top non-quarterback on the Heisman Trophy odds leaderboard. But that also means he is likely to get the bulk of the defense’s attention each week. That was especially true in last year’s semifinal win over Texas when the Longhorns held Smith to one catch for three yards, while Tate feasted for a game-high seven receptions and 87 yards.

While Smith set Ohio State freshman records for catches (76), yards (1,315), and touchdowns (15) last year, his -115 odds are not worth the investment given last year’s performance against a team with much of its secondary returning.

Tate failed to score a touchdown in any of the last six games a year ago, but taking a chance that he forms an instant connection with new quarterback Julian Sayin is worth the $17 potential profit on a winning $10 wager. Tate’s implied probability to find the end zone is as high as 41.67% based on his shortest +140 anytime touchdown odds.

Ryan Wingo has the highest total for receiving yards of any Longhorn at an O/U of 51.5. And while DeAndre Moore Jr.’s O/U is slightly lower at 41.5 (as high as 44.5 at bet365), his position of running routes out of the slot is more appealing for an anytime touchdown bet, given how much more likely he will be targeting out of Texas’ heavy run-pass option usage.

Moore is the only returning Longhorns receiver who had at least four catches against Ohio State last year. He played well down the stretch last year, with two of his seven touchdowns coming in the SEC championship game and a playoff game, proving he is a safe play for an anytime touchdown against elite competition.

Therefore, Moore should have much higher than a 1-in-3 chance to find the endzone, which DraftKings’ +200 odds imply. But I am happy to back him at a price that would double my initial $10 wager in potential profits.
