Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton was excellent last year. He is off to a hot start this year, too, with 307.7 passing yards per game, on pace to beat the 277.9 he averaged last year. However, the home and away splits tell a more nuanced story. Last year, Morton averaged 262.4 passing yards per game on the road, and, when we remove an outlier 400-plus yard performance against a dismal Oklahoma State team, that average drops to 227.8.

Road games have historically gone poorly for Morton. His career passing efficiency score at home (151.8) is dramatically better than the same number on the road (116.2). His home completion percentage (64.3%) is similarly much better than the same number on the road (59.8%).

The Utah defense isn’t perfect, but it’s very good. The Utes rank ninth defensively in the Fremeau Efficiency Index (FEI) and 20th in yards allowed per pass attempt (5.4). Morton will attempt plenty of passes, but look for Utah to respond accordingly and limit his effectiveness. Bet Under 260.5 for -115 (53.5%) at BetMGM to turn a tidy $8.70 profit on a $10 bet.

Wayshawn Parker Over 47.5 rushing yards (-114) ⭐⭐⭐

One way Utah will likely look to slow down Texas Tech’s offense is by simply possessing the football, so establishing the run will prove crucial. Utah already ranks 24th in rushing play percentage this year (59.4%), which has resulted in running back Wayshawn Parker averaging a steady 64 rushing yards per game on 7.1 yards per attempt and nine carries per game.

I suspect Parker will get a heavier workload since Saturday’s game should be the first close matchup for Utah this season. The Utes could afford to conserve Parker in their first three contests as they won handily by multiple scores. That probably won’t be the case on Saturday, as Utah is just a 3.5-point favorite.

While Texas Tech hasn’t allowed much on the ground this year, the Red Raiders haven’t played an offensive line as good as Utah’s. The Utes rank as a top-10 team in offensive line yards, which should give Parker plenty of opportunities to get into the second level and gain ground. Parker for Over 47.5 rushing yards at -114 (53.3%) at FanDuel is one of the best Texas Tech vs. Utah player props on the board, and a $10 bet will earn you an $8.77 profit.

Devon Dampier anytime TD scorer (-150) ⭐⭐

Utah’s quarterback, Devon Dampier, has been a revelation as a rusher. He scampered for 86 yards and no scores versus Wyoming a week ago. He also ran for 87 and a score against UCLA in the opener. Against a stingy Texas Tech defensive front, Dampier’s ability to roll out of the pocket and scramble will be an asset, especially near the goal line. He has tallied an impressive 24 rushing touchdowns through his 24-game college career.

Dampier may need to take matters into his own hands – or legs – and find pay dirt for the Utes on Saturday. The lone rushing touchdown that Texas Tech has surrendered this season was to Kent State quarterback Dru DeShields. Don’t be surprised if Dampier breaks a similar play. Lock him in to score a touchdown at -150 (60%) on BetMGM to turn a $6.67 profit on a $10 bet.

How do college football player props work?

Player props are wagers on individual performances rather than the outcome of the game. Common props include passing yards, rushing yards, receiving yards, and touchdown scorers. For example, if a QB’s passing yards line is set at 250.5, you can bet the Over (251-plus yards) or Under (250 or fewer yards). You can also bet on if a specific player will score a touchdown in the entire game, the first or last touchdown, and more college football odds markets.
