🏴☠️ Texas Tech -10.5 (-125) ⭐⭐⭐
Much of my reasoning for backing Texas Tech as double-digit road favorites stems from its dominating 34-10 road win at Utah, which completed its first 4-0 start since 2013, before enjoying a bye last week.
The Red Raiders entered that game against the Utes allowing 1.5 yards per rush, the second-fewest in the country. Their defense also allowed 3.7 yards per play (ninth), and generated the second-most quarterback pressures (51) prior to that matchup.
It was a strength vs. strength matchup, as Utah had averaged 3.3 yards before contact per rush (ninth-highest), and converted third downs at a 71% clip (the second-highest among FBS teams).
All of these splits went Texas Tech’s way, as it held Utah to 3.3 yards per carry and 4-of-14 on third down, while out-gaining the Utes by 221 yards.
Not only has Texas Tech covered all four of its games this year by an average of 8.8 points, it is 5-0 ATS in its last five conference road games, and covered six of its last seven when at a rest advantage over its opponent since 2022.
This line has only returned back to its opening number of -10.5 at BetMGM, and I do not mind paying up slightly for the -125 price and 55.56% implied odds while getting as much as one point in extra value compared to the -11.5s at other shops. A $10 winning wager for a Red Raiders cover would return $8 in profits.

⬆️ Behren Morton Over 262.5 passing yards (-114) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton was forced to leave the team’s win over Utah with a neck injury, but he's had two weeks after last week’s bye to heal.
Morton leads the No. 2 scoring offense in the country at 52 points per game, and his arm is the biggest reason for its FBS-leading 368.5 passing yards per game (nearly 17 more than the next-closest team).
Texas Tech’s passing attack is difficult to stop because of how well it spreads the ball around. The Red Raiders have five players between 200 and 260 receiving yards on the season, including three wide receivers, a tight end, and running back.
Houston’s defensive coordinator from last year, Shiel Wood, is now a part of the Texas Tech coaching staff. And even though the Cougars still rank 11th in pass defense while holding opponents to 140 pass yards per game in his absence, they have not seen a passing attack as explosive as Texas Tech’s this year.
FanDuel is one of the lone best sports betting sites offering a line on Morton’s passing yards as of this writing, so bettors should be sure to check for value as kickoff approaches. Through FanDuel’s -114 odds at a 53.27% implied probability, a $10 winning wager would return $8.77 in profits.
