My best Penn State vs. UCLA prediction centers on the Bruins' struggles and the mismatches they will face on Saturday. Kickoff from the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., is at 3:30 p.m. ET (CBS). The opening odds have the Nittany Lions lined as the 25.5-point road favorite.

This spread is massive, yet despite the Nittany Lions suffering a dramatic overtime loss last week, Penn State covering is one of my best college football picks for Week 6.

🦁  Penn State -25.5 (-110) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Nittany Lions won each of their first three games by at least 34. The competition wasn’t stiff, but that won’t change Saturday, as the Bruins are averaging just 14.2 points per game while allowing 31.2.

Penn State is averaging 180.0 rushing yards per game. Between Kaytron Allen, Nicholas Singleton, and Drew Allar, the Nittany Lions are averaging 5.1 yards per carry. The Bruins are allowing 232.8 rushing yards per game and 5.4 yards per carry.

The visitors' defense has also been stout, holding opponents to no more than 11 points in any of their first three games. The Bruins’ implied total for this game is 12, but I don’t think they’ll get near that number, as they’ve already failed to hit it twice.

Most sites are in lockstep with BetMGM, offering Penn State -25.5 (-110). The price indicates a 53.28% chance of Penn State covering, and a winning $10 bet would profit $9.09.

🔍 Penn State vs. UCLA odds analysis

Penn State heads on the road for the first time this season, but UCLA has lost both of its home games by at least 25. I expect this number to potentially get as high as 28.5. If you're in on Penn State, you'll want to try to get in before this total hits four touchdowns, so that a 35-7 or similar result still covers.

As for the total, the number is set at 50.5. I think the number will go up slightly, if it moves, because of how bad the UCLA defense is. However, I’m staying away.
