College Football Parlay Predictions
Missouri-South Carolina Under 47 (-105)
South Carolina is ranked in the AP poll in the last week of October for the first time since 2013, but what awaits is a slugfest involving an underrated Missouri defense. The Tigers have lived in opponents' backfields for much of the season, ranking 11th in havoc rate. They face a South Carolina offense that has allowed a below-average havoc rate of 14% to opposing front sevens.
Conversely, no one tops the Gamecocks in expected points allowed during standard downs. At the same time, Missouri has a 39% overall offensive success rate and 44% success rate on standard downs, both among the SEC's worst.
The Under has cashed in four of the previous five meetings in South Carolina and eight of the last 10 overall between these teams.
South Carolina and Missouri have averaged fewer than 23 points per game against SEC competition, and we expect a defensive struggle in this matchup.
Stanford-UCLA Under 64.5 (-110)
After not winning a game against FBS competition for a whole calendar year, Stanford comes into this game with some confidence after back-to-back wins over Notre Dame and Arizona State. The Cardinal's winning streak is largely credited to a defense that held both the Fighting Irish and Sun Devils to just 14 points apiece.
Stanford entered last week ranked 108th or worse in rushing EPA/play allowed, havoc created, rushing success rate allowed, and line yards. While there is little doubt that UCLA, a team that has scored 30-plus points in a school-record 10 consecutive games, will put pressure on Stanford's defense, perhaps all the Cardinal needed was to taste victory to build some confidence on the defensive side of the ball.
Conversely, UCLA was the best in the conference in total defense before last week's debacle at Oregon and should take advantage of a Stanford offensive line dealing with multiple injuries. Stanford ran just four plays in the red zone and had a 0% red-zone success rate last week, and we look for more of the same against an underrated Bruins defense.
Navy -13.5 (-105)
After averaging 13.3 points over the first four games, Navy's offense has gotten rolling of late, with 107 points in the last three games. That increased offensive output has come against much stiffer competition, with games against SMU and Houston mixed in.
The Midshipmen have had their way with Temple the last two seasons, averaging 34.5 points in two victories and two straight covers. The Owls are 0-7 against the spread in their previous seven road games, and nothing about new head coach Stan Drayton's regime suggests Temple is ready to contend with Navy's triple option.
The Owls allow 179.9 yards per game on the ground (eighth out of 11 AAC teams), and they have totaled just 16 points in their three road games. If they fall behind early again, it will be challenging to come back against a Navy team that does a great job at limiting possessions.
