The spread going beyond a two-touchdown margin makes it difficult to lay the points with the Longhorns. But the total seems more attackable for the same reasons that Texas is such a significant favorite.
Texas averages 35.1 points per game, while Oklahoma State has allowed 28.6 points per contest in 2023. The Cowboys have given up 30-plus points in each of their past three outings, lending to the idea that Texas should be able to post some points in this matchup.
Oklahoma State ranks outside the FBS top 100 in both rushing yards and passing yards allowed per game. In Week 13, Texas hung 57 points on a Texas Tech defense that actually ranks more favorably against the run than Oklahoma State.
While that sort of script for the Big 12 Championship Game would make the spread a more sensible bet, it’s a good example of Texas carrying the total without much help from the opposition.
