Miami -3 (-118) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The premise is that Miami is this year’s Ohio State. Last year, the Buckeyes looked dominant before showing cracks and then turning into the best version of themselves in the playoffs. That’s what we’re seeing from Miami, as its defense held two top-15 offenses in adjusted efficiency to a combined 17 points so far during this CFP run.
Ole Miss will be the toughest test yet for the Miami defense, but Miami’s fourth-ranked scoring defense (13.8 PPG) is up to the task. Though our Rob Paul also has the Hurricanes winning the Fiesta Bowl, his Miami vs. Ole Miss predictions have the Rebels keeping it closer than I do.
Under 52.5 (-110) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Because of their tremendous defense, the Hurricanes have seen just one game all year exceed 52.5 total points. Games involving Miami are 5-9 on Overs this season.
Although Ole Miss has by far the worst defense remaining in the bracket (49th in adjusted efficiency), Miami has averaged just 17.0 PPG during its two playoff games. Though the Rebels have played in plenty of shootouts, five Ole Miss games fell below this total points threshold this season.
💵 Expecting a lot of points in the Fiesta Bowl?
Our Mike Spector provided his three favorite Miami vs. Ole Miss anytime touchdown scorer predictions, led by Hurricanes wide receiver CJ Daniels.
CharMar Brown 15+ rushing yards (+113) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Another big reason I like Miami in this game is the way the Hurricanes match up with Ole Miss on the ground, with the Rebels ranking 66th in FBS in run defense, allowing 151.3 rushing yards per game.
Though our Philip Wood targets Mark Fletcher Jr.’s rushing yardage in his Miami vs. Ole Miss player props, I’m backing a softer line for reserve back CharMar Brown. Brown didn't play in the CFP win over Texas A&M, but he rushed for 26 yards against Ohio State and has cleared a 15-yard rushing line in 10 out of 13 games played.
