The Group of 5 meets the Big Ten in the first round of the College Football Playoff as I make my James Madison vs. Oregon anytime touchdown scorer predictions. Kickoff from Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Ore., is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (TNT/HBO Max).

No. 5 Oregon has the biggest point spread of any game of the 12-team CFP, as oddsmakers have pegged it as a three-touchdown betting favorite over No. 12 James Madison. That has me backing two Ducks in my touchdown picks, while taking a flier on a Dukes receiver.

Kenyon Sadiq (TE) or Jordon Davison (RB), Oregon: Either player to score 2+ TD (+155) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Kenyon Sadiq and Jordon Davison have the two shortest anytime touchdown odds at FanDuel at -155 and -145, respectively. Thus, these +155 odds at a 39.22% implied probability are a great value for either player to record two or more scores.

Sadiq’s eight touchdown receptions are double the next-closest teammate, while Davison’s 13 rushing touchdowns are more than double the six from leading rusher Noah Whittington.

Either Sadiq or Davison has scored multiple touchdowns in four of the previous six games, and they have a great chance to do so again with the Ducks having a near five-touchdown projected team total.

🔥 More James Madison vs. Oregon TD picks: College Football Playoff

Malik Benson, WR, Oregon: To score 1H TD (+260) ⭐⭐⭐

Malik Benson leads all Ducks pass catchers with 526 receiving yards and a 17.0 yards per reception average.

The strength of the James Madison defense is stopping the run, as the Dukes allow 2.48 yards per carry and 76.2 yards per game on the ground. Overall, they rank second in Rushing Success Rate allowed and Defensive Line Yards, and are fifth in Stuff Rate.

If Oregon respects James Madison’s front seven, look for it to take shots early in the passing game, with Benson being its biggest deep threat. Of his four touchdown grabs this season, three came in the first half.

Among the best sports betting sites, FanDuel is the only one offering better than +230 for Benson to score in the first half.

Landon Ellis, WR, James Madison: To score anytime TD (+470): ⭐⭐

James Madison has scored 36 rushing touchdowns compared to 24 passing touchdowns. But despite facing Oregon’s elite secondary that ranks in the top 15 in several metrics (opponents’ passing yards per game, opponent quarterback rating, Passing Success Rate allowed), negative game script suggests the Dukes have a better chance of scoring through the air.

Landon Ellis is the only Dukes pass catcher with more than four receiving touchdowns this season.

This is only a two-star play as he enters amid a five-game touchdown drought. But he should see a higher uptick in volume like he did when he hauled in 40% of the team’s receiving yards in the only loss to Louisville this year.
