In Saturday's Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, Georgia State (Sun Belt) and Utah State (Mountain West) collide in Boise after 6-6 seasons.

This game might favor a team like the Aggies, who are short favorites, especially in colder conditions. However, Levi Williams will start at quarterback, as Utah State's top two options are still dealing with injuries.

Meanwhile, Georgia State has recently lost multiple key players to the transfer portal. This group includes running back Marcus Carroll, who took his talents to Missouri after accumulating 1,350 yards and 13 touchdowns on 274 attempts this season.

Utah State -2.5 (-105 via Caesars) ⭐⭐⭐

Throughout the year, Utah State hasn't secured a victory against any bowl teams. However, Blake Anderson's team is well-positioned to finish the season strongly by clinching a win in the upcoming Potato Bowl on Saturday. The Aggies stand to benefit from facing a Panthers squad that's lacking key players.

Not only did Georgia State lose its starting running back to the transfer portal, but backup KZ Adams has also left the program. No. 1 receiver Robert Lewis transferred to Auburn, while starting right tackle Montavious Cunningham went to Virginia Tech. These players landed in much better programs, highlighting the type of talent Georgia State lost.

The Panthers simply aren't as equipped to overcome such losses without much preparation, which is why I'm favoring the Aggies in this one.

While a third-string quarterback is expected to get the nod, it's worth noting that Williams has been in this position before. The junior passer, who began his collegiate career with Wyoming, led the Cowboys to a 52-38 win over Kent State in the 2021 version of the Potato Bowl.

In his only other start with Utah State, Williams was named the Mountain West Player of the Week after leading Utah State to a 44-41 double-overtime win over New Mexico on Nov. 24. He's clearly capable of rising to the occasion and will be looking to do so one last time to finish his football career. After Williams is done, he will begin Navy SEAL training.

Bowl betting at the best college football betting sites can be messy. There are transfers, opt-outs, and injuries to monitor all over the place. But I'm willing to root for what could be the best story on Saturday, especially since Utah State appears to be the right side on paper.
