In one of the three top 25 SEC matchups on the Week 8 slate, I break down my early Ole Miss vs. Georgia prediction and college football picks in a game with huge SEC Championship implications.

The opening odds have the Bulldogs as a 6.5-point betting favorite, and my early picks and college football predictions for Week 8 back the road underdogs, despite the possibility of there being a better number later in the week.

Kickoff from Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga., is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon (ABC).

🏈 Ole Miss vs. Georgia prediction & best bet

Stay ahead with the rest of our early college football predictions for Week 8.

🦈 Ole Miss +6.5 (-105) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is a common matchup. It's a team that went through the motions in beating an inferior opponent last week, facing a team off an impressive road win in which it covered the spread. In these situations, I typically prefer to take advantage of what an overreaction from the oddsmakers is and back the least impressive team from the week prior.

I'm not faulting Ole Miss for sleepwalking through its win over Washington State, an unfamiliar opponent it faced for the first time in school history. After all, the Rebels still faced a Cougars team coached by Jimmy Rogers, who entered the non-conference matchup with a .857 career winning percentage from his time at South Dakota State.

Georgia did what it was supposed to do in beating Auburn on the road. Its ninth straight win over its rival is now tied for the longest winning streak by either team in the series' history. But the Bulldogs were also fortunate to force a goal-line turnover that changed the game. Georgia did not pull away for a dominating victory despite shutting out Auburn and holding the Tigers to 40 yards of offense in the second half.

As of this writing, all of our best college football betting sites are in unison with the point spread of -6.5. But FanDuel is the only one charging a price less than -108 at 51.92% implied odds to back the underdogs. At its -105 price, a $10 wager would net $9.52 in profits if the Rebels cover.

💡 Ole Miss vs. Georgia odds analysis

Ole Miss backers would have gotten the best number if they made their wagers early Sunday morning at DraftKings as +7 was available then. Sharp action likely drove this line down off the key number, as the Rebels are only getting 43% of the early wagers.

I would advise those who like the underdog in this matchup to hold out for a +7 spread. The home team has won each of the last four meetings between these teams, and the public will likely support Georgia in droves as a reaction to each team’s performance from last week. Should the line never get back to +7, I would bet an alternate spread up to -130 for a better number of +7 or +7.5.

Of our best sports betting sites, FanDuel is the one to keep its total at the opening number of 53.5, as all others have moved to 54.5. I would expect FanDuel to align with the rest of the market soon, given the -118 juice and 54.13% implied odds on the Over of 53.5. Thus, Over backers would be wise to head there for an early wager, as it is not likely the line ever dips below 54 again based on the initial movement.
